MODX is a CMF as well as a CMS, with its ORB xPDO and the core API it's an excellent choice for the framework on which to build web apps. There is no restriction whatsoever on what Javascript you use; the MODX Manager is built using ExtJS, but the front-end template is just an HTML document with MODX tags for the dynamic parts. There are even API functions to insert HTML, Javascript or CSS into a template on a page-by-page basis.
Thank you Susan. Do you know of any tutorials or sites that can help me. I believe I am going to try to integrate Foundation Framework app with Modx Revolution which I already use with some of my websites.
Thanks

MODX in no way restricts your Javascript or CSS, and a MODX template is just an HTML document with the dynamic parts replaced with MODX tags. So you can do anything you want for the UI, and the API will simplify your PHP back-end code. There are a number of ways of working with custom data.
You might be interested in modx.pro's AJAX utility snippets, I find them very useful.

Their docs are in Russian, but Google Translate does a reasonable job of translating the pages.
Depending on what kind of app you want, there may well be an add-on already available that you could use at least for the base of it.
