I added visualchars and print to tiny_mce/plugins from official TinyMCE download, but TinyMCE still appears broken in MODx 1.0.9. What is the proper procedure for getting the new version of TinyMCE to to work in 1.0.9?

But locale setting not (specially with LC_ALL). This would cause all PHx modifier with floatval input not working anymore in german installations, since ',' and '.' are swapped in numbers in that locale.

Which then sets the site up with the correct timezone preventing errors, and which would mean you dont have to create a php.ini file with the timezone in it.

yesterday I installed the first 1.0.9 as an upgrade to 1.0.5 for a 1&1 hosted site. Everything went fine.

Two remarks:
In my download of MODX 1.0.9 there were two folders missing in the assets/plugins/tinymce/tiny_mce/plugins folder, preventing TinyMCE from loading in the backend: the folders "visualchars" and "print". I grabbed them from the official TinyMCE download site.

For Germany it makes sense to include the two lines
$locale = setlocale(LC_ALL, 'de_DE.UTF-8');
date_default_timezone_set('Europe/Berlin');
into the config.inc.php file

to prevent timezone warnings in the backend.
