Actually I much prefer it to Pixelmator, but (sadly) it doesn’t open .psd files. While it doesn’t justify lines of rtl, it does work within lines, and it is free and open-source on SourceForge.

One thing I really like about it is that the developer is very responsive. I was having a problem rotating a text layer, and after some discussion on the forums and a bug report, he provided a patched version that fixed the bug.]]>

As I do blocks of hebrew and not that much, I was going to stick with what I did before (hurt my head and type backwards) but here are two tools I found that may help me out:
http://bitofgold.com/converter.php
http://www.flipmytext.com/textreverser.html
Both of these tools will allow me to write the lines out, and then have the characters flipped without hurting my head - I’ll still have to go a line at a time, but I can live with that.

Another option I’m going to look into, is I downloaded a copy of GiMP for Mac; if there is pretty good editing allowed in there, I may just do the designs in there, or rasterize the effects from Photoshop and drag them in. Or type the text out with typography, and rasterize the layer and send to Photoshop. Any would work....not my favorite solution, but an acceptable work around....Thanks for the help Susan!]]>

I’ve never actually used Photoshop; I don’t like to use unlicensed software and I’m certainly not willing to pay what they want for something I’ll never use.
Eesh. yeah, it is super-expensive. I’m still using CS3 (and I would be totally happy and never want to upgrade except it doesn’t use 64bit and doesn’t understand multi-touch). I still hate the idea of paying $950 for the upgrade, or $700 for the cheaper upgrade. Either way it is upsetting. And now they offer subscription services - but on an 18 month upgrade schedule, I think the subscription is even more expensive than buying the program outright!!!! You would think they would make it cheaper....*sigh.
/rant.

I’m going to actually try some of these links for PS now, see how well they work (in CS3). I’ll try and keep you posted.]]>

I got Pixelmator as part of a MacHeist package deal several years ago; the whole package was $50 and had several utilities I’m still using. I don’t know if they offer these any more, they were doing them once a year for a while.

I seldom use text in an image, as I prefer to have the text’s element use the image as a background and have the text itself sizeable, especially since my eyes started giving me trouble a few years ago and I often have to zoom in on a page to read it.

I just had a thought, set up a new image in Pixelmator, and pasted Hebrew text written on my preferred editor. Worked just fine. The text was pasted in with the font and size I’d set Pixelmator’s text tool to use, Lucida Grand in this case.

On my Mac, I use Pixelmator, a minimalized GIMP clone that handles Hebrew just fine. Works with .pds files, too.]]>

Anyone know of any good program (or photoshop plugins) that does right-to-left text properly? Writing hebrew from left-to-right and backwards is not conducive to my relaxation smiley. Thanks!]]>
