But I am pleased that I’m finally able to wrap my arthritic brain around this! It’s really neat! The CPAINT library makes it so easy! And studying it helps me understand what’s going on.

My goal is a paged database browser; view hundreds of rows of data 10 or 20 rows at a time without refreshing the whole page every time.

Okay, rthrash, ok, a nice nested category file browser thingy for DocMan. Unless I throw my computer out the window first.]]>

One example of use:

Does anybody else see the drag-and-drop design potential in this sort of thing? Reminds me of creating table connections in MS Access 12 years ago!

And this...

Over at http://backbase.com/index.php#0 they have an incredille idea of how to use AJAX for ecommerce.? While of course I am currently figuring out how I can use that here at my current job, something else popped into my head....wouldn’t something similar to this be optimal for the new file explorer?? Instead of using DOM (which I think you said may be overly bulky), couldn’t we use something simliar to this to allow tree maniuplation on the fly?

Hi John,

Yes we sure can add more Ajax stuff to the manager. The truth is that once we have cleaned up the interface and have moved over to the new platform we will be able to switch over to a fully Ajax enabled core. This however will require much planning and good design. One of the drawbacks with some Ajax design is that they do not allow of multiple connections to the server.

The tree view explorer uses some form of Ajax technology in that it allows dynamic loading etc.

I didn’t want to continue to post the farm publically, so here is my latest response to the AJAX thread:

Actually X, I was just thinking about you when I popped over to another site.

Damn....this AJAX stuff seems like the future of UI. I’m going to have to get more into this if I know what’s good for me smiley
