The sad thing is that few seem to have learned anything from this, and Microsoft’s efforts to ram through their own proprietary "standards" are still finding fertile soil. Consider their "open" office specifications (which even their own products don’t support properly), and the latest balagan over providing cloud services to the government. http://www.infoworld.com/d/the-industry-standard/there-they-go-again-microsoft-googles-latest-cloud-tussle-537

<![CDATA[Re: IE 6 must die !]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/19437/ie-6-must-die?page=2#dis-post-107769 hilarious that MICROSOFT has itself now come out and said "Friends don’t let friends surf the web with IE6"
as if this is a DRUNKEN browser, or was developed by DRUNKEN programmers! grin I always suspected as much...]]>

<![CDATA[Re: IE 6 must die !]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/19437/ie-6-must-die?page=2#dis-post-107767 Funny though, note the stats on the MS page? I bet a lot of the percentages in the first world are developers and designers testing...so until MS does what it should do rather than putting up a lame website complete with code which you can embed into your site, by FORCING upgrade, then we are most likely going to continue to see percentages from paranoid designers/developers.]]> dez Mar 06, 2011, 08:27 PM https://forums.modx.com/thread/19437/ie-6-must-die?page=2#dis-post-107767 <![CDATA[Re: IE 6 must die !]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/19437/ie-6-must-die?page=2#dis-post-107766 http://ie6countdown.com/]]> goldsky Mar 06, 2011, 07:55 PM https://forums.modx.com/thread/19437/ie-6-must-die?page=2#dis-post-107766 <![CDATA[Re: IE 6 must die !]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/19437/ie-6-must-die?page=2#dis-post-107765 diatomin Jan 11, 2011, 11:10 AM https://forums.modx.com/thread/19437/ie-6-must-die?page=2#dis-post-107765 <![CDATA[Re: IE 6 must die !]]> https://forums.modx.com/thread/19437/ie-6-must-die?page=2#dis-post-107764
I develop in Firefox and everything works great. Then I check IE and the most inane errors show up.

I’m new to Modx and look forward to working with it. But never to IE.]]>

While Microsoft tries to move on to campaign the IE 8, we stuck with this garbage.
Q: Why don’t people change?
A: Because they just don’t know that they SHOULD change and there ARE other options.

This isn’t true for all users. The UK government has mandated that all government departments will remain on IE6, because it’s too big a job to test and resolve incompatibilities with all their systems, yet they know it’s insecure. It’s the same story in many businesses (my previous company started testing IE7 long after IE8 had been released.)

This is despite the fact that other governments recommended all citizens stopped using IE altogether.

Like has been said before, as designers and developers we can only encourage users to upgrade, not force them to.]]>
