yesterday I created a new MODX package, available in the Package Manager from today on. It took me about one hour to setup a new site, install PackMan and create all (the two) chunks and one template to get it all working. It took me so long because the last time I did this was a year ago.

Then I told PackMan what Template he should pack, what folders he should add to that package and what chunks are beeing needed along with it. PackMan created the transport package for me, which I downloaded and then uploaded into the MODX repository, along with a description what it does.

In total, I spend about two hours. Now, I can save about 15 minutes on each project I create, based on this MODX Extra (which is Foundation 6).

And so does every one else who is using Foundation 6 with MODX.

By now, it has 4 downloads. That is 1 hour saved around the globe. With 2 hours of work beeing spent. So why don't you try and stuff your favourite tool into a MODX Extra? It would benefit all of us. It would lead to time saving and would encourage others to do it. And it will make it easier for people who are new to MODX start using it.

Today is my birthday. All I want is some new packages smiley

PackMan is a good start to get people motivated. It can't handle complex extras, but it is ok for beginners. So it is perfect for some CSS frameworks that dont need a loto of logic at all.]]>

MyComponent is definitely harder to learn, but will help a lot with with maintenance, complex package creation, customization, interacting with the user during the install, creating documentation, internationalization, and a number of other things.]]>
