I found Modx through The Coding Pad:
    http://codingpad.maryspad.com/2010/08/18/modx-revolution-for-beginners-part-1-introduction/

Mary quite rightly states: "MODx is an extremely flexible and powerful content management framework that is capable of producing amazing results."

The steps provided were exactly what I needed to get the site I was developing completely up and running.

I'd previously dabbled in static web design and wanted a way to take the labour out of reproducing content, duplicate stuff that appears on each page that is likely to change regularly, such as headers/footers etc so I thought there must be an easier way than editing each page.

When I came into a bigger project where I needed to be able to aggrigate content from other pages I knew I needed something else..... a CMS, as I discovered. I did my research on Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla etc but finding Mary's pages took me step by step through almost everything I needed for ModX and I was sold.

I've implemented many of the great packages from the excellent contributors, such as Newspublisher, GetResources, Login, FormIt, AdvSearch, Wayfinder, TinyMCE and more....

I think I started on 2.1.3, so Revo had been around for a year or so, but I'm learning new stuff each day and there are soooo many things I don't know how to do and still want to achieve. I'm glad that I've found ModX, this community and the kind support that it offers.

I had used WordPress for years and though I found it to be extremely strong at quickly getting a website up and running, I found it to be really inflexible every-time I wanted to actually develop something.

So I went on a CMS search, I looked into multiple solutions including Drupal but ultimately I really liked what ModX was about (especially the ease of use for both front-end and back-end tasks). I am still new and learning but so far the community and the product has been a perfect fit.

I have a timeline on my web page:

        2008 MODX® CMS

In 2008 I got introduced to the CMS world when I re-designed a web site running Joomla. Joomla (and most CMS) gives users the ability to inject content into the code Joomla outputs.

This was horrible and I thought web design was dead and over with. Fortunately for me and my client I found MODX!

Here is why I consider MODX to be the best CMS in the world:

        1. FREEDOM: You decide how much of MODX You want to inject into Your code. (Reversed roles!)
        2. OOP: Total separation between client-side and server-side code.
        3. GPL LICENSE: Open-Soure done right
        4. AWESOME COMMUNITY: Thanks to people like Bob Ray and Susan Ottwell I got inspired to learn PHP!

Authentic testimonials brought me to MODX. http://forums.modx.com/thread/90907/remove-html-without-loss-of-google-ranking---htaccess-rewrite#dis-post-498008

When I was deciding to look for a CMS or web creation site to build my site, I ha considered Modx. This was around 2009. Since this time I have been using Yola.com for my website creation. Then it dawned on me that I am spending over $100/year for my site and thought that there must be something open source and will allow me to create the site the way I want to. I am not a coder by any stretch although I did code my site with some html and css after watching tons of videos.

I have learned a great deal since 2009 and am now re-considering ModX. I have 2.2.14 installed with my hosting provider so that I can set up a test site to see how I do with ModX. There's something I really like about this CMS. Can't put my finger on it but it reminds me of when I recently switched from Mac to Linux. Something about Linux that I love and that is that it is free in every sense of the word. smiley

You should upgrade to the new 2.3, another major step forward

By default, it's the site's URL and then /manager so if your site is www.mysite.com then you log in to www.mysite.com/manager and enter your admin user name and password

                      Regards,
