Hi there, I'm a bit new to Modx and I was wondering if there were still people around Portland that I could talk with to help break some of the development material down.
Anyone still around Portland that wants to do supper or something?

I'm still around, i'm no master of modx, but at a decent intermediate lvl. I've gone through my hashing of wiki's to figure things out... i can give a hand some time.

I live in Vancouver WA an hour away and would love meet up with MODX developers! Moved here in August 2014. All web people I have talked to this far are stuck in WP. tongue

      • I had a wonderful conversation with Andreas (mrhaw) this evening and would cordially like to invite those of you who are nearby and want to get together to our preliminary meetup happening in Portland, Oregon soon!

OK, no date yet but the first thing to do is try to contact others in the area and generate enough interest to set a date. I hope to be able to send a notification to our local forum members via the wonderful folks at MODX, have a short list of those that I know are here (you know who you are!) and with the folks who have posted in this thread obviously interested, I think we will have a great time.

I feel like the best first step is to meet for maybe food and drinks casually somewhere in Portland (no sales tax). A little get to know one another time first, and then we should talk more about what people would like to see in a more official setting which might warrant a speaker.

I am tentatively planning to make this happen sometime in the next few weeks so if there are any favorite locations (not too noisy) for food and drink please post your thoughts. Personally, I'm very close to downtown on the east side but try not to go there if possible. I think there are plenty of places not in downtown that would serve the purpose.

        Bring your friends and colleagues!

Please email me at [email protected] if you would like to join us and also let me know if you have any date or time limitations between now and mid August. Hopefully the date we pick will work for everyone.

I would be down for a meet up. I have a space we can use for a event ( my gf's personal training biz, does events), has seating for 20-30 and a table, but no wifi, and no projection availability. but quite, and we can bring out own drinks / food. looks like after 8p's wkdays, thursday after 4p, sats after 6p or sundays after 630p after normally open...

I'll be out of state aug 6th to 26th. as far as recommendations.... east burn in the patio can be quite (at least when i'm there for brunches) a table can hold about 6 to 8. i guess depends on the time and how many would show up for other recommendations for locations...
          • Do you mean east side, Burnside? Which exact patio?

I'm close in east side, a few blocks off of Burnside near 28th. Lotta patios between me and the river. Migration on 29th & Glisan has some nice bench seating outside, and there's a lot of space at the place about 3 blocks west with some funky orange covers. Haven't been there yet but it looks interesting and not too busy.

For the first meet, unless there are very many replies and rsvps, any patio seating will do with the weather we've been enjoying. Wi-fi is... for this purpose perhaps not necessary. I'd like to get some ideas of what everyone is interested in, and talk about best ways of promoting interest outside our little group of few.

Andreas has a location in Vancouver that seats about the same as yours, not sure about the wi-fi though. Between the two, I think the formal location is well served and I'm pretty sure I have a line on a MODX Rockstar speaker for when we do go formal.

is the location i was talking about... great food and beer. nice back patio area. no idea on how busy in the afternoons though as i normally go there wkends for brunch, think it gets slamed happy hour times... but not sure.. club21 has nice patio area and good build your own burgers, but can be a bit loud, depending on how high vol the outside music is. more near me.. by pcc sylviana pasha's has a quite patio area and good food.. walter mitty's good quite patio area or quite inside. so so food.

              • I met with a MODX editor/user/marketing director yesterday who has offered space at the US Bancorp tower, large reception area and refreshments such as sodas, beer and wine available in the kitchen area and best of all the spacious office, conference room area and large screens on the wall, just right for our purposes.

There's a chance we could use it for the first informal meetup instead of a restaurant/bar, if the space isn't in use on our date. We may be able to find a way to provide food as well.

Unless you all want to meet at a food and drink place first, as originally intended. I can ask about a date and see what happens, or we meet in the next couple weeks informally.

                Thoughts?

                  • The next Portland MODX Meetup is scheduled for October 6th, 2015 in downtown Portland, Oregon.

Come hear Andreas Wettainen (mrhaw) talk about how MODX has helped him get here to be able to meet us all. Andreas, now living and working in the Pacific Northwest, originally from Sweden has graciously agreed to be the main attraction!

Please come and meet, greet, network, and generally talk MODX shop. Bring your friends, colleagues, and pass this information on to anyone you think might be interested.

Light snacks and beverages will be provided. Feel free to bring something to contribute, however it is not required.

We realize that some may have a more difficult time getting into downtown at this hour, but please don't let that deter you from coming even if it's later than the start of the program. Just come on in and join us whenever you can get there!

Depending on interest, after hours continuation of meeting and greeting may be arranged.
