    @ Graeme Leighfield

I have no problem with self promotion, but posting a link to a client site every time you create a site using MODX is in my eyes OTT."

@iusemodx - Alot of this is based upon your opinion, which I respect, but my response to your argument would simply be, if you do not like it. You don't have to look at it smiley

I personally think this is simply spamming the forum.

I respectfully disagree. I am not super active on the MODx forums, but actually subscribed to this thread as I enjoy the work Gel Studios does and it gives me inspiration in my own work.

Totally agree, I don't subscribe to this thread but do like looking at the sites being built in MODX where we can all get inspiration from, there used to be a area on the main site that you could add sites built in MODX to but I don't think that works anymore.

      Keep it up Graeme ;o)
      • Indeed. I like looking at what others are doing with MODX.

            • The webworker lounge is entirely suitable for sharing work with the community—event if there's a lot of it. Anyone is welcome to share and discuss their work here as long as it relates to their MODX work or working as a web professional. Sharing links to work while is self-promotional is also educational and inspirational to others and is not overtly selling. The thread is on-topic.

Unlike in the Showcase, which is intended for public display, the forums are a place where people can comment, critique or discuss. This adds value for me and as noted, for others. From experience when people share and discuss their work, it helps people learn and understand their work and grow as a professional. This is the same kind of result one would get from doing a presentation at a meetup or conference. Sometimes, due to the nature of a showcase, it can come close to the line of being salesy, however, in this case Graeme has not, IMO come anywhere near this.

If anyone would like to show and share their work in the Webworker lounge, they are equally welcome to do so, again, in my opinion.

@ Jay Gilmore - please read your PM
                • Thought I would take the time to show you all a project that isn't yet live, but at a very important stage in its development - client content.

At GEL Studios, we love to put the client in control, and MODX for us, is perfect for this. We use form customisation heavily, and it ensures that the administrator only sees what they need to on a per page basis.

This site has been made from our side, but is at a stage where the client has started to put in content and images. This has been done after an hour or two's training. This is the clients first look at the management of there website, so it's vital that it all looks, and performs as it should. Hence the importance of form customisation!

After this stage, we would do an internal QC and adjust any styles/formatting due to lengths of (for example) menu title changes, page titles e.t.c.

Any way here is a link to the new site - http://46.37.178.246/~project

P.S If you want to see there old site, and compare it to the new one, thats here! http://www.project-realization.com/

                  • I have a question then that maybe you can answer. If I move a set of TVs into its own tab, the Category is still listed in the TV tab, even though it's now empty. Have you run into that situation, and have an idea of how to remove the empty Category from the left side in the TV tab?

I found this also quite early on in my form customisation learning curve - and the answer is... no. I've not found a way to remove it. I kinda of circumvent the problem however by either a.) Moving all template variables normally into modx_resource_main_left/right or, b.) making my own tab, and moving it into there. Then hiding the template variables tab completely.

The only problem I find with making your own tabs, is there is only the ability to add a template variable that takes up 100% of the width. I would love (and I do mean LOVE) to see the ability to add your own left and right areas (similar to the modx_settings tab) and populate them as I see fit.
