Hey all. Have a blank Manager Login page (White Screen of Death). However, I can see the site unavailable message (the site isn't published) at the main site URL, so it is just the manager I'm having issues with. I've cleared the cache in core/cache and I've double checked that my memory_limit is set appropriately (32 MB). Any other thoughts/suggestions for either fixing or diagnosing?

This is occurring as a result of a MODX reinstall - I'm running Revo 2.2.4, PHP 5.3.8 on Linux. PLEASE HELP!

Try deleting all files in the core/cache directory again and clearing your browser cache and cookies before logging back in.

If that doesn't work, go into the DB with PhpMyAdmin and turn off compress_js and comptress_css in the modx_system_settings table. Then clear everything again before logging back in.

Much appreciation for your help, BobRay - unfortunately, none of that helped. I am able to see the front end of the site fine, as before, but not the manager login screen, or the manager itself. I'm also not able to see any PHP errors at all.

Would it be feasible to delete the "manager" directory from my install and re-upload it from the original MODX install files to eliminate any possibly corrupt files, or would this simply cause more issues?

Please disregard the "Front end is fine" stated earlier. I went into the "site status" system setting in the database and switched it to 1. When this is done, the live site also shows the white screen of death. GAAAAAH!!!!

No, that should be fine as long as you run Setup in upgrade mode afterwards (and clear stuff again afterwards).

You could upload the core and connectors directories as well and it wouldn't hurt to re-download MODX as long as it's the exact same version.

Did you use FTP to transfer the MODX files individually? That often results in corrupted or missing files.

See this for another method: http://bobsguides.com/modx-upgrade-faq.html.

With all due respect, you mean the white screen of fail. Microsoft own all rights to the term "Screen of Death".

BTW, had the same issue recently, and Bob's solution worked for me. Hoping some day soon for a fix to the js and css compression issue or a removal of the feature entirely as it is nothing but a PITA if you forget.

As a follow up, I re-installed all of MODX (from a fresh download from modx.com, to be safe), along with clearing the cache and changing compress_css and compress_js and that has seemed to remedy the problem. Will update if the issue returns.

In 2.2.4 I've noticed some "quirky" behavior in the saving of system settings as in for some values changes revert after saved, and some are not editable at all and immediately revert after save. Such was the case with my css and js compression settings. Had to go into the db and set them there (a.k.a the hammer fix). You may want to try that and see if the manager comes back. That's what did it for me.

Could be an issue with my setups, but I have three 2.2.4 sites on 3 different environments and all are susceptible to this oddity, so I doubt it.

Curiously, I ran into a non-editable System Settings for the first time today in Chrome. I haven't upgraded in a while. It was a relatively new System Setting in a non-core namespace, and I don't edit those often. I checked back later and it was fine. Go figure.

                    • I've been experiencing this as well. Last instance, turning FURL's on wouldn't stick. Took 4 tries. I've seen it before with other settings. A lot recently. Using FF, almost always.
