  • First announced a few months ago at a meetup in Utrecht, I'm thrilled to announce we have launched the event website for MODXpo Europe! All details are available from http://modxpo.eu/.

MODXpo Europe is an event in Utrecht, The Netherlands on November 10th, 2012 for anyone that designs for, builds with, or develops stuff for MODX. There will be 11 sessions which includes a keynote from Ryan Thrash, and other well known community members.

Thanks to some fantastic sponsors including SoftLayer, we are able of providing a full day of MODX goodness for only €29,95 per ticket (€39,95 after Sept 14th). Registration is available from http://modxpo.eu/tickets or directly from our EventBrite page at http://modxpo.eventbrite.com/.

I'd like to invite you all to check out the conference site, and look forward to meeting you in November! smiley

Looking forward to putting some faces to names. ;o) Going to miss part of Ryan's keynote as I'm flying in and out on the day, but assuming it will be more or less the same as what he's going to say the following Monday in London.

Big thanks to MODX, organisers and sponsors for a really enjoyable event in Utrecht.

Some great speakers and presentations and really good to meet other enthusiastic MODXers highlighting the friendly and positive MODX community.

MODX remains small and a niche product. Sometimes I wonder why other web developers just don’t get it but I’m pleased because it means I have less competition. On the other hand it’s essential that MODX thrives and grows and retains the interest of the core team to ensure the long term viability of the product. It was an excellent event which enabled the sharing of ideas and contacts to help strengthen and grow the future of MODX.

(nice new forum by the way!)
        • The event was really great. I got a chance to meet some other very open and friendly MODXers. Mark and crew did a wonderful job of organizing.

I was wondering if we will be getting some links to some of the presentations... I missed one about optimizing your MODX site for speed and would love to get my hands on that!!!

Thanks again MODX. Maybe next year in Germany???

          • The keynotes will be online soon, including video. My keynote about speed optimization can be found here.

Please note that the point of the presentation was to get input from the community; so was the iPad Mini contest we organized. A lot of opimization tips will be up the next weeks. Keep an eye on our blog and twitter.

            • The video will hopefully be online early next week.. all attendees will get an email when they go live, and I suggest the rest follow @MODXpo, this topic or modxpo.eu smiley

Glad to hear you guys had fun at the MODXpo!

              • We had a blast! Well, at any rate, I had a great time; I think a few people weren't feeling quite the thing after the pub night at The Guardian pub...

I would really like to express my chagrin at the dud the workshop turned out to be. I just couldn't get "in the groove" with it. Next time I bring my own computer!

Besides the expo, which was fantastic, I spent Sunday walking around Utricht(sp?); I actually got to cross a bridge over the Rhine; right next to the bridge is a real "shuk" or bazaar, which made me feel right at home. Then we walked along some canals near the hotel where we stayed (we were the only MODx-ers to stay there!), drool over a canal houseboat for sale nearby, and do some shopping in the city center after noon. Monday morning we went into Amsterdam and since Arkea, a rather sleazy Israeli airline, had delayed our flight from 12:30 to 5:something, we took a boat trip around the canals of Amsterdam. It was really nice (but not as nice as the expo!)

So, we (finally) got into Tel Aviv around midnight last night, and I'll probably end up sleeping off and on all day today at least before I catch the bus to Mizpeh Ramon and HOME!!!

It was great meeting so many of the community!

Yes, thanks for organising, and thanks to all the speakers, I really enjoyed the event, learned new things, and was re-inspired with MODx.

It was also really good to meet other MODxers, as I realised I've been using modx for about 4 years and this was the first time I'd actually met any other users!

Just talking to other people using modx was great for a number of reasons:
Because you realise that there are other people in the same boat ( most people I met seemed to be individual freelancers like myself rather that company/agency workers)
You pick up tips/tricks/ideas that you can easily miss when you are working in isolation.

It made me realise we really need to organise a meet up in the North of England so we can swap ideas and get together to defeat the evil droopal/joomla/wordpress empires. And give each other tips and tricks on dealing with clients, and getting good graphic designs/designers etc etc.

So if you are in the Yorkshire/Leeds/Manchester/North of England area you can register your interest on this thread [ed. note: thingstodo last edited this post 11 years, 5 months ago.]
                  • The videos are wonderful! Very well done. It brings back all the great fun that the Expo was. http://modxpo.eu/video

                    • Hey GP,

Is there going to be a link to the video of your "Speed up MODX" presentation? Unfortunately I missed that one!

                      Thanks,
                      Ben
