When I poked around Drupal there seemed to be quite a few places to buy nice templates designed for Drupal. I don’t see that with MODx. I don’t really see anything specific on ThemeForest either that supports MODx. Really what I am looking for is a very professional looking business web site template. I have a very solid idea of what I want it to look like. Looking thru the gallery on the MODx site I can see some published sites that look exactly like what I need. Now, how do I go about finding a template that looks like some of those that I can purchase? Or heck, even free... wink

If anyone is selling templates please let me know. I’d be happy to point you toward some of the sites in the gallery that peak my interest.

One idea would be to find the sites in the gallery you like, and then try to hunt down the designer. Then you could offer to purchase the same ’site,’ with your colors and logo integrated. It will certainly cost more than a template, but may work for you.

Yeah, I had thought about that goonz, and even did email someone. Never got a response back. I guess I will have to keep trying. I will probably duplicate this post on the general forum so more people see it. Also probably as for private messages from people who are willing to "see" a template. I’ll list several sites from the gallery that appeal to me. I have some very specific structure and appearance that I am wanting to achieve on the home page, and probably only 3-5 other "template" pages that will be duplicated across the web site. The entire web site would probably encompass upwards of 400 pages total though. Thanks for the input!

One thing you could consider is looking for premium HTML/CSS templates on places like Themeforest or TemplateMonster. Themeforest particularly has some good templates, and relatively inexpensive. You can then port these to MODx yourself which is a relatively painless process, or pay someone to do it for you.
          • I’ve finally given up on trying to design myself, and am now working with one of the designers active on the forums. A bit pricey perhaps, but well worth it to have a really nice, custom design for some clients. Usually I can get by with using one of the multitude of free templates available online.

I rather like this one http://freehtml5templates.com/downloads/free/nolimits/

If you can design at all yourself, there are a lot of nice templates out there, and "porting" one to MODx is simple. It’s really difficult to provide a ready-made template for MODx because it’s so flexible, and since it just uses a regular HTML structure with appropriate MODx tags inserted for the dynamic content parts it takes maybe 15 minutes to do the HTML part. The rest of the time in design is taken up with styling, which has to be customized for every site in any case.

Thanks einstein. Someone else I had talked to from the forums on the phone suggested the same. I guess I wasn’t piecing together how a template on ThemeForest would work. Makes a lot more sense now. I have found a couple of templates that look like exactly what I want. I shouldn’t have too much a problem getting it in to MODx and the process should also teach me quite a bit as well!

As there seems a shortage of templates for MODX Revolution I will port any free or paid for template to MODX Revolution for awhile. If you use a paid for Template I cannot give this to the community but all free templates will be available for use by MODX community. A contribution to MODX would be expected for a paid for Template. I have no idea how long it will take for each template but lets give it a try. You can PM me the details.

                  @aznative @sottwell

I decided to use @sottwell link above and have converted same to Revo template.

It took me over 3 hours in 3 sessions to complete work to date and set it up on github.

I still intend to add a wayfinder navigation chunk to replace existing navigation chunk.

That’s the fourth thing I do to any template; the first three involve the template head’s charset, language and title.

That particular template has tons of little boxes that would be perfect for Ditto and Javascript sliders or rollovers. The main image would make a very nice tabbed rotator combining a Wayfinder and a Ditto call to generate the HTML it wants. I have one of these set up with QM edit buttons so that the rotator’s panels can be easily changed.

I have now added the wayfinder navigation to github
                      github.com/allanjpb/nolimits

I have only added MODX tags to the head section same as @sottwell

I have put all the little boxes as chunks.

I will consider any modifications if you feel it will be more suited to a larger audience.

                      EDIT
Would anyone be interested in changing the color scheme using less.js
I have found a way to change the color scheme by setting a variable created in the manager so a client could change color scheme by changing a site variable.
