one of my clients, in Mexico, wrote it -- modecs -- maybe he had in mind the Aztec Codecs or something....

I pronounce it mod-ex with the emphasis on the mod.
charliez the reason modecs would be spelled that way in Mexico is because IIRC "x" is sort of a soft sound--phonetically modecs is how I pronounce it.
In any event I’d take mahhd-ecks for the ’Mericans in the south’rn parts and us up north might pronounce it Modd-ecks. Mode-ecks sounds like someone being a snob.
