Hi. I’ve had a good look in the snippet library and cannot find an html to pdf converter.
Has anyone ever considered creating an on-the-fly html to pdf converter?
I think that would be very useful perhaps even for inclusion in the core - the ability to select whether the item should have pdf capabilities.
I will be releasing a PDF plug-in/hack based on an open-source third-party PHP-based HTML-PDF conversion routine later this month, after 0.9.5 is released.
Thanks Paul, that’s great news!
Will it be possible to select which documents have "convert to pdf functionality"?
Effectively, yes. The method involves a change to the .htaccess, a parallel parser, and a special table editable via a module that connects the normal templates to PDF-friendly templates. Any document can also be accessed via aliasname.pdf, and if there isn’t a PDF-friendly template, it will 404. Other than that, you’d just only put the link to the PDF version on the pages that you want to promote as PDFs. There are certain limitations to what HTML can be converted to PDF, but on the whole it works.
This sounds great Paul. Thanks for confirming.
Update ?
I know Paul has been working on this based on FPDF, anyone did check TCPDF ?
Seems to have built upon FPDF and improved many things like convert from html...

Also interresting, a class to do the opposite, import a PDF into a html document :

There are a few things that I planned to release publicly post 0.9.5, but unfortunately it’s a bit too near Christmas. I have a large workload on my dayjob presently and I have a fairly packed "spare time" presently.
I’d put a projected release date of January 7th on the MODx PDF generator.
I will however most definitely be switching this to use TCPDF, as FPDF hasn’t been updated since 2004. So thanks muchly for that link!
In fact I discovered it while in training today, while we were learning to use the fpdf library, and I was asking about converting html to pdf (thought that was what the library was doing out of the box, more or less). So I looked up and got this link. I thought I’d share.
Thanks for the update about the MODx PDF generator

This will be a major success no doubt, given it’s a much required feature !
The end of the year is crazy for many people indeed...
