Since I started using the Gallery plugin i’ve noticed that it is very slow and seems to be re-creating thumbnails every time. Today I updated to the newest 1.2.1 release which should have fixed the issue by using phpthumbof. I’ve also Installed phpthumbof through the package manager after updating gallery, but I can’t see any speed difference. huh

I also noticed that phpthumbof doesnt make thumbs in the cache directory "assets/components/phpthumbof/cache". What am I doing wrong? And how can I activate this phpthumbof so it works with gallery? I’m using the Gallerific plugin my albums. The template looks like this:

    [[!Gallery? &album=`MyAlbum` &autoStart=`0` &gallerifficThumbWidth=`32` &gallerifficThumbHeight=`32` &plugin=`galleriffic` &imageWidth=`500` &imageHeight=`500` &navigationWidth=`200px` &numThumbs=`52` &prevLinkText=`< Vorige` &nextLinkText=`Volgende >` &playLinkText=`Slideshow afspelen` &pauseLinkText=`Slideshow pauzeren` &enableTopPager=`0` &defaultTransitionDuration=`500` &delay=`4000` &maxPagesToShow=`4`]]

Can someone please assist? I love the gallery plugin, but in some cases (e.g. when loading an album with 500 pictures) it’s very very slow, even on 20mbit internet. :’(

It can’t cache as you call it uncached.

Thanks for the answer. I’m not quite sure what you mean by this though. Can you please explain? smiley

            Your call starts [[!Gallery

The ! means to call Gallery uncached - i.e. it will cause it to reload the images from the disc each time.
Remove the ! to use it cached, see if that helps your speed issue

If i remove the ! it doesn’t give me a speed bump. It loads only half the photos, and somehow doesn’t quite render the whole template before all pictures are loaded. Also I notice that when loading the images, half way it stops, but then after a while continues with a small amount of pics. Very strange behaviour... huh

There are various JS solutions to rendering the template before the images are fully loaded. See http://modxrules.com/articles/modx-revolution-gallery-with-colorbox-and-jquery-asynchronous-image-loader-jail"" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">here as an example.

Also, what size and format are your images?

The thumbs are 32x32, and the images no bigger than 500px wide. In a album with 500 pictures, the loading takes forever. Isn’t there an option for gallerific that it loads only the given amount of thumb/images per page instead of loading all the images at once? smiley

sorry, I meant what file size are the images?

If they are a couple of meg in size then this will certainly slow things down!

there around 150/200kb per picture, so not too big. The problem is with the script trying to load everything at once it seems. If it would only load the first page amount of thumb/images, and when the user request another page it loads another batch, it would solve the problem.

                      Is this possible? smiley
