I am having a lot of trouble with TinyMCE changing my html code.
There are alternatives and I note that there is a new package called TinyMCE RIch Text Editor (beta) now available.
Can anyone give a comparison between say Ace, MarkitUp and TinyMCE ? And any info on the new TinyMCE RTE ?

Ace is not a Rich Text editor. It is a coding editor that provides line numbers, syntax highlighting, and some tag completion, as well as search-and-replace. It does not change your input in any way.
I'm not aware of any Rich Text editors that don't helpfully modify your input HTML to what their developers feel is more valid HTML. Personally I seldom use them for that reason. If somebody added an image insertion feature into Ace or one of the other non-Rich Text editors I would never use a Rich Text editor at all.
bobd72, you can try CKEditor as well.

If I have to use an RTE, it's ModMore's Redactor.
Thanks Susan and Whitebyte. It's a real pain that TinyMCE makes assumptions about code.

Be warned, they all do. Occasionally I run across a site where the only content is a chunk, which used to puzzle me. Then I realized that it was to avoid the RTE messing with it, and they needed the RTE in a TV so they couldn't just turn if off for that resource.
Multiple thumbs up for Redactor!
The ability to create custom css styles that are accessible in the editor is a big plus too.
TinyMCE as is is a pretty robust and ultra powerful tool, but the version or kind you see in MODx is quite another story.
Don't be misled by any RTE that claims to be a PTE (Poor Text Editor).
An RTE does exactly what its name suggests: it enriches, embellishes, takes that extra mile, whether you like it or not.
Redactor may be great and all, but the stuff you are looking for is all present in TinyMCE, for free!
Redactor may have some features like auto upload etc, but that is not really the complaint for many of us who use TinyMCE.
@bobd72 TinyMCE has a gazillion features that the current MODx extras do not make readily accessible to you, the common user.
With valid_elements -- valid_extended_elements -- valid_children and forced_root_block there is little you can't do; in fact you can turn TinyMCE seemingly into a wicked PTE or WYOIEWYG (What You Order Is Exactly What You Get)
@mmcgee TinyMCE has this feature, I find it rather ultra pleasant. As clients create an article with all the html tags and whatnot, they know exactly how it will appear when published, no need to preview anything. The CSS styles used in the main site are called upon in the TinyMCE editor.
Along this lines, are templates an editor may select to help format the layout of the presentation.
In this vein, I made TinyMCE_Wrapper so that you can use the latest (and always the latest) TinyMCE CDN in MODx Manager / just copy the codes for frontend usage.
At this time it supports only a custom modern file browser, not the MODx native one.
I named it -Wrapper, because I feel that too many extras/plugins in MODx, Wordpress, Drupal etc are not the TinyMCE they call themselves.
All the settings of TinyMCE are at your disposal: just use the default (located in four chunks) or go grab them configs from the most excellent TinyMCE wiki page.
TinyMCE has a powerful fiddle tool, style generator...come on, you can't beat that for free
Dedicated to all those who have wept.
TinymceWrapper: Complete back/frontend content solution.
Harden your MODX site by
passwording your three main folders:
core, manager, connectors and renaming your
assets (thank me later!)
5 ways to sniff / hack your own sites; even with renamed/hidden folders, burst them all up, to see how secure you are not.
