I have moved a production site into a local environment for redevelopment.

The move went fine -- the local site and manager both function(ed) perfectly.

Per the instructions on rtfm for moving a site, I then took the step to rerun setup, and something is amiss. The only selectable option I have is to create a new installation, which doesn't allow a connection to the existing database.

This is modx 2.3.2 trad (production and local versions are the same) and I'm using MAMP locally.

    Please advise.

Make sure that your core/config/config.inc.php file is there and is writable.

There isn't anything in the core/config directory, because all modx directories were overwritten in preparation for running setup. Are you saying I should place the config.inc.php file, that I edited after migrating the site, into the overwritten core/config directory?

If setup doesn't find a config.inc.php file, it assumes that it's a new install.

Try creating an empty config.inc.php file in the core/config directory. If that doesn't work you'll have to install and edit the one from the remote site.

Whatever you do, don't run setup unless you can check the upgrade box.

You'll need to use the original one. You may need to use the "advanced upgrade", which will have you put in the database details again.

Thanks. That's what I did and got a blank manager. I've reverted back to the original migration (pre setup) and everything functions fine.

Updating the rtfm documentation to include this information, and how to troubleshoot common issues like the one that I have encountered, seems like a worthwhile effort. I understand this is basic stuff for folks like you, but it isn't for those who are less familiar with the innards. My two cents.

There are really only four files that configure MODX Revolution for the server it's on:

                core/config/config.inc.php
                (root) config.core.php
                connectors/config.core.php
                manager/config.core.php

In theory, setup sets the values correctly in all four, but it doesn't always work.

BTW, SiteCheck will test the validity of the settings in all four files and report on any incorrect paths or unwritable directories.

Since I purchased a copy of SiteCheck, this is good to know wink

The rtfm page on moving a site details the files / paths to update really well. All in all, it's a great resource, but the short section on re-running setup is incomplete, IMHO , hence my previous comment.

I searched the forum for similar issues before posting and despite finding a couple, still nowhere is mentioned the need to plant the edited config file in core/config. Maybe this happens so infrequently, or is so obvious to everyone by me, that doing so isn't warranted, but it was totally unclear to me and including these notes might be helpful for others.

Can you give a link to the rtfm page you're referring to?
