Package Management broken in 2.3.1 after site migration

I cannot seem to download any extras through the package manager after transporting my site. The download starts then the manager breaks before it can finish. I have cURL installed and all my directories are writeable. See attached image. Thanks for any insight.

Thanks. Ok, now whenever I save anything in the manager, it breaks before completing.... I turned on compress js and css in the system settings; and for some reason my actual site's css files I think are being pulled because it's using my site's body font letter-spacing style; also it's using my site's webfont. So confused... Happens only when trying to save Elements (and when downloading packages). Please see attached. [ed. note: pjldesign last edited this post 11 years, 11 months ago.]

BTW, you want compress_js and compress_css *off* not on if you're having display problems.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, the host my client has (GoDaddy) apparently doesn't allow any bypassing of Mod_security, each method I tried returned a 400 error. I'm just going to have to convince my client to port the site back to the ModX Cloud (everything ran so smoothly over there).

Are you on the GoDaddy cpanel plan, or the older Linux plan? I had a lot of trouble on the Linux plan because file permissions were always changed to non-standard values. I couldn't install packages until I changed them. You might try running a script on your entire directory to globally change permissions to 755 for folders and 644 for files.

That being said, 2.3.1 does seem to trigger some different mod_security rules compared with 2.2.x. If changing file permissions doesn't work, I'd advise contacting GoDaddy again and insisting on speaking with someone who has the authority to alter mod_security settings. I'm pretty sure I made that happen for one of my sites there. You have to explain that it's not a platform that has a lot of current security vulnerabilities in the wild (like Wordpress and Joomla).

Of course, educating clients about the much better hosting alternatives than GoDaddy is the best course! [ed. note: rainbowtiger last edited this post 11 years, 11 months ago.]

Should i remain with godaddy or host with modx?

MODX Cloud is good. There are others that cost a bit less, like SkyToaster and A2, that specifically support MODX.

Going with ModX Cloud this mod_security bs is too much hassle. Plus these errors are making my client lose faith in the stability of the CMS. Thanks for all your help guys.
