Hi, I am a new member to the forum, plus to MODX as well. I am not very good with html and have had help setting up the CMS so far. I just wondered, I want to add a Google Sitemap to my site, and it asks for a feed. I want to set up an RSS feed, but I have no idea how to go about it. Can somebody point me in the right direction, for dummies.

    Thank you,

    I really appreciate the help.

    John.

Hi Thank you for your reply. I’ve followed your instructions as best I could, but its showing an error, after I’ve saved, and viewed the page.

XML Parsing Error: no element found
      Location: http://www.furrycritters.co.uk/index.php?id=86
      Line Number 2, Column 1:

Would you have any idea why that should be?

      Thank you.

      John.

Hi, sorry we just had a temporary problem with the site, but its back up now.

For some reason it went offline.

        Thank you for your message.

The site map is at the bottom of the links at the left of the page, called sitemap.xml

Hi, got another error now, a slightly different one. I just cleared the cache for both MODx and my Browser, adn the error I have now is

XML Parsing Error: junk after document element
          Location: http://www.furrycritters.co.uk/index.php?id=86
          Line Number 2, Column 1:<b>Parse error</b>: syntax error, unexpected ’[’ in <b>/home/furrycri/public_html/manager/includes/document.parser.class.inc.php(769) : eval()’d code</b> on line <b>2</b>

          ^

Have you any idea what that means now?

          Sorry for the questions.

          Thank you again

          John.

Hi, ok, sorry about this, I have a feeling its because I havent been able to call the snippet properly. I uninstalled what I did before, then reinstalled it, I’ve entered the information in correctly as you posted. But I still get the error.

I downloaded the the Sitemap 1.0.6, followed your direction to create the snippet. I created a blank document, and published it, but I think this is where I have the problem. Everything is there, but I am not sure, why its not recognising the new snippet.

Ah, I got it to work at last, it was the the way I had entered the information and called the snippet. Its generated content, but now I have to include style, so how can I edit it to include the style.

That’s what it looks like at the moment. How do I get it to look like a readable RSS page.

              Thank you.

Ok, I’ve been going through the threads to do with adding sitemaps, and it says ’if you want to get a readable output, you have to get an XSL stylesheet as described in the repository entry.’ Can you tell me what the repository entry is. I’m so sorry for all the questions, but I’m totally new to this, and I’m learning as I’m going along.

Hi, thank you for your message, I used to validation tool, and its validated. I’m quite pleased with that.

I wanted a reader so that people could subscribe to it. I will take a look at the one you suggested.

                  Thank you very much.

Hi, sorry to bother you again, but I was just wondering how I can actually add the RSS feed to my site, now I have the site map up and running. Do you have somewhere that explains how to add the RSS feed, so that people can subscribe to it? I have tried to look for one, but cant seem to find one that fits into MODx.

                    Thank you for your help.

                    John.

Hi, I am so sorry to bother you, but I have managed to get the RSS feeder up working, through Ditto, but I am really getting frustrated because I cant seem to set the parameters, but I cant get the rss feed logo to appear in the address bar, to show peopel that there is an RSS feed on the page. It also doesnt update, and hasnt since the day I installed it.

Could somebody point me in the direction of somewhere that explains this for dummies. I would like to add the RSS feed logo to each page, I would also like to see it in the address too.

                      Thank you.

                      John.
