    Hello!
    I have problems with installation. At "Connection Information" point I get: "Connection to host: failed!" I think the reason is file permission thing. What means "World-writable" (777)?
    What should be enable?
    User read? write? exec?
    Group read? write? exec?
    Other read? write? exec?

    Thank you!

      A triple 7 means: ALL YES (all read/write/exec).
      The first number is for User, the second for Group, ...
      e.g. the notation is:
      read:yes | write:yes | exec:yes = 4+2+1=7
      read:yes | write:yes | exec:no = 4+2+0=6
      read:yes | write:no | exec:no = 4+0+0=4

          Means their is no access to the (host) server. If you can upload the modx files via FTP you should have access to install it. Please post a bit more info about the host and what you’ve done before.

            Host is Surftown.se and I have done all things from the instruction here: http://www.modxcms.com/installation-and-configuration.html and http://www.modxhost.com/index.php?q=4.html
            When setting the database in the control panel I cant find any where how to "Add Host" other how I have done all thing from the instructions.

              This means that MODx was unable to connect to the databse host, it is not related to file permissions. Are you sure that you have the correct host, username, password for the database server?

              Note: if you are using a cPanel server the username and database name get setup with your cPanel user name prefixed. So if you create a db user mydbuser, it will be created as user_mydbuser and the same goes for the database name.

                Not sure about the host.. I assume its localhost, but not sure. Do I have to ask it from the server host?

                  localhost is almost always the correct choice. But chack to see what the username and database name are setup with.

                  Also in cPanel you need to assign the user to the database, so there are 3 steps:
                  1) create database
                  2) create user
                  3) assign user to database

                  Here is a link to a video tutorial for creating the database in cPanel

                      No localhost: look at the support pages of your hoster (ok it’s horrible shocked):

                      SERVER=mydb1.surftown.dk
                      DATABASE=yourdatabase
                      UID=yourdatabaseuser
                      PWD=yourdatabasepassword

                      Maybe you’ll find more info in the control panel at Surftown.se

                      And ... there could be a problem:
                      "Which version is Supported by MySQL? Surftown currently supports version 3.23.56."
                      <edit>Do they know what they do? You can find the PHP info at http://ws1.surf-town.net/phpinfo.php
                      There the MySQL version is stated as 4.1.15</edit>
