Answered Resources disappearing from manager in new installation

Hello all,

I've just installed 2.3 (clean, traditional install) and created a few empty resources, plus an Articles container. Everything seemed fine until the last resource I created disappeared from the Manager after I accidentally clicked "Save" a second time (which may be irrelevant). The resource is still there in the database. I've tried clearing the cache (no effect) and logging out/in (also no effect).

The MODX installation is on LAMP (RHEL 6.5, Apache 2.2.14, MySQL 5.1.73, PHP 5.3.3). The only extras I have are Articles plus what it installs (quip, archivist, getpage, getresources, taglister). I've created an Articles container, but no content yet. I have just 2 other (empty) resources (About Us, which is showing up, and Register, which isn't).

I do apologize if this is just a newbie issue, but I'm a little at a loss for what to do, or even what info to provide. I will gladly provide any desired--just let me know.

Update 1: the problem appears to have to do with reordering resources in the Manager. I created a new resource, which turned up in Manager, but once I reordered it (drag/drop), this resource disappeared from the Manager and my previously missing one (reported earlier) reappeared.

Update 2: And it appears to occur only in the presence of an Articles container. Once I deleted that, I can reorder resources with no trouble at all. [ed. note: smashingred last edited this post 12 years, 2 months ago.]

We had this problem also, but with parent resources. The articles container homepage wanders randomly around the resource tree. If it is directly after the homepage, it's happy. Anywhere else and other parent pages along with their child pages disappear from the resource tree in manager. Editing directly in the database in the site_content table under menu index fixes where the articles container page actually displays on the website front end, but in the manager it still won't sit where it is supposed to and clutches of other resource pages don't display. If anyone comes across a fix, please post.

Bob's book is good, btw. Helped many of us here get to grips with Modx.

That's really strange. What's your sorting option for the Resource tree?

Yes editing the parent in the modx_site_content hasn’t fixed the tree in the manager here.

We are trying to put a regular resource between two Article containers but the sandwiched resource either disappears or appears below both in the resource tree.

I have copied the row and edited menu index for all items but no joy. A Google search brought up a bug link but the modx debugging website appears to be down

By the way BobRay, how do you change the sorting option in the resource tree? I would have assumed this would automatically sort by menuindex.

Bob, Sorting Order is on "Menu Order".

Sorry, Bob, that might not be true (I was looking in the wrong manager, a 2.2.14 - too many Modx developments going on.....!). The answer is I don't know, as I'm not sure where to locate that in 2.3.1.

It's a System Setting. Gear Icon -> System Settings: tree_default_sort and menuindex is the default.

When you drag a Resource in the tree and menuindex is the sort option, all the menuindex values are renumbered. The renumber may ignore the Articles containers for some reason, but I wouldn't expect it to.

You might be able to switch the sort method to publishedon and then unpublish and republish the resources in the order you want them to appear, but it would be kind of a pain.
