I am very new to MODX, and I'm a designer rather than a coder.
I am adding new pages to the site by duplicating older pages – but the new pages are now at the bottom of the list order wise. I want them to be at the top as they are now the latest news. So I have read all of the documentation on the menu index, but its a mess on in the resources tree, nothing is actually in a numerical order that makes any sense. The first post is index number 10 so it made sense to me to then add a new post in that has the index number of 9. That didn't work, and I couldn't even find a post that had the menu index number of 9.
Each of the posts also have an ID, but there at quite a few missing (I guess some have been deleted?). I can't seem to change that in the MODX dashboard, would that have anything to do with the order?
Hopefully some of this makes sense, and any help or just a link to where I need to read would be appreciated, as my searches haven't turned up much other than installing some plugins which I'm not sure about.
Thanks in advance!
Will

The resource ID does not change. The menuindex will change the order the resources appear in the output of snippets like Wayfinder.
Which version of MODX are you using?
Hi sottwell,
Thanks for the quick response, currently using MODX Revolution 2.2.0-pl2 (traditional).

then you can simply drag-and-drop the resources in the Tree into the position you want.

There are some System Settings to determine how the Resource Tree is displayed. See the Back-end Manager area in the Filter by Area drop-down.
Right, so I can get some items to move. The main navigation system, when I move these around they update on the site and change. Where I am having the issue is with child pages on a parent page.
So the Music page has a list of individual pages that are in a list based on a template. I need to add more of these in – but I can't seem to change the order of them. So in the resources tree they show up like this.
Home
About
- Page 1
- Page 2
- Page 3
Music
- Item 1
- Item 2
- Etc
It's these individual items that I am trying to change the order of, and if I re-arrange them in the tree in the MODX dashboard it does nothing.

What snippet are you using to list them?
I dunno but do you save the page when you change the Menuindex manually? (back-end)

Evolution user, I like the back-end speed and simplicity

getResources uses the createdon field by default, if you want to order the list by menuindex you have to say so in the properties.
&sortby=`menuindex` &sortdir=`ASC`

I think Wayfinder as thats in the Core > Components folder along with ditsformsaver, firstchildredirect, formit, getpage, getresources,if and tinymce, if any of that helps.
