    One of the common problems of new, inexpensive hosting is that once a lot of people sign up for it, both performance and support go into the toilet.

      My 5 cents about the things that bother me in this thread.

      I don't care about prices anymore. Sure, I don't want to spend a fortune on hosting, but if I have to decide which hosting I want to pick, the yearly costs are the least thing I'm worried about.

      Whats really important:

      Find a hoster that responds to your needs

      I always pick a hoster somebody I trust recommends. I ask the person why he does. I'm especially interested in things that went wrong in the beginning, but ended well. I'm not interested in recommendations by somebody who "never had a problem". In my opinion they just were lucky.

      Then I start with a small package, ask a couple of stupid questions, crash something and see what happens. If I like what I see, I buy a bigger package. If I don't like what I see, I try to find out why this happened. I always give people a second chance. I don't even bother with a third one any more.

      Expertise in the CMS of your choice is also always a plus...

      Size does matter

      There is a huge gap in service between hosting companies and in my experience, the bigger they get, the worse they are.

      Its as simple as this: A limited supply of excellent staff can't support an an unlimited number of customers. Period.

      Of course this is not true for all of them, but 9 out of 10 times this is a good rule of thumb.

      Money = Time

      In the long run no hosting company on this planet can offer low prices + reliable hosting + awesome support for cheap. Sooner or later this is bound to fail. Dedicated support takes time and knowledge. People giving this kind of support need to be paid (most of them might be geeks, but they have families too...).

      A difference of 100 bucks per year or more is nothing compared to 20 support tickets to a company that can't solve your problem or understand your needs. That doesn't mean that you will get excellent service by spending a lot of money. The opposite might be true. But if you go for cheap, don't expect anything special.

      My 5 cents,

        Hi,
        So I just had to move a site to MT gridserver today and the save process in Revo 2.3.2 is hanging. It may update the data in the db or it may not yet the save process nearly always fails to complete. I also had to disable css and js compression in the db directly just to see the manager dashboard. Any idea whats with the Save process in Revo 2.3.2 hanging? Also MT purport not to use mod_security (i assumed a rule triggered on my IP causing the save to fail) nor do I see it in my phpinfo. Have they some other security feature that could be causing this save hanging and what would be the fix?
        Thanks Guys!
