Hi,
I am completely new on MODx and I haven’t check it out 0.9.7 yet. I can see from the forum discussions that its almost ready but I haven’t seen anywhere yet any indication wheater we are talking about days, weeks, months on release date?
I built a prototype site with 0.9.6 and now I am starting real development that will be about 200hrs of work in 4 months timeline. Site should be ready in April. Question is if I should start development on 096 or 097? There will be quite a lot custom coding.
Personally I would go ahead and start in 0.9.6.1 then upgrade when the time comes. I am sure that is will be a minimal effort process to upgrade.

That’s good to know!

I hope the migration is relatively painless.

My understanding is that a lot will change, like snippet/chunk calls. Snippets may have to be rewritten, so I don’t see how easy upgrades will be possible for anything other than a simple site. If snippets have to be rewritten then if you are not familiar with PHP you will have to wait until someone does the work for you.

It would definitely be better to build in 096 right now. All of the snippets/modules are pretty stable and tested for it- so we know they work.
And release dates slip alot in open source projects.
And with 097, you’ll really be rolling on your own since how-to’s and tutorials and documentation isnt available for it yet. And most folks in the forum dont have much experience with 097 but have a lot of experience with 096.
Its better to learn the 0.9.6.1 system, then once 0.9.7 is released adapting old workflow to new naming schemes won’t hurt to much. Besides I’m sure (like me) lots of people are relying on a seamless update to 0.9.7 with 0.9.6.1
You shouldn’t be put off by potential core code changes unless you planning on doing a lot of core changes. And I’m sure the snippet developers are aware of code changes and making preperations to adapt to it when need be.
Best advice is to get into MODx and start creating..

I’ve developed several multilanguage sites in the current version. It’s not all that difficult. In fact, the need to create a site in four languages easily is what attracted me to MODx in the first place.
