Answered Articles Tags 404

For some reason when clicking on a tag link in a blog post it throws a 404. What's odd is that it was working just fine. I haven't made any Settings changes or installed anything. I've also reinstalled all the Articles dependencies but no change. The tag url is correct, http://mysite.com/blog/tags/tag-name but it still throws the 404.

Ideas?

Are you saying you uninstalled Articles to solve it? What about existing content, does this get lost?

That's correct, I removed Articles and its dependencies and reinstalled. It's worth noting that I did this process 3 times before it was fixed. Had I not decided to try it again I might still be in the same situation. I still don't know what caused the problem in the first place. It may work for you or not. It's very odd.

Existing content will be unaffected. Completely removing the Articles package does not alter the actual blog content in the database, only the reference to the package.

It is odd and a bit worrying.

Actually the site was on 2.8 so upgrading it to 2.10 fixed the problem.

This issue was prompted by me investigating another issue regarding furls. How does modx know to treat extra elements in the url as querystring parameters rather than thinking it's further down the tree?

e.g.

www.domain.com/mypage/tag/bananas

modx knows that it's actually

www.domain.com/mypage?tag=bananas

but how does it know this rather than give a 404 because there is no folder /tag with a page called bananas?

What are you using for the tags? sorry, just noticed that you're using Articles. I would imagine that Articles comes with whatever plugins or customized stuff it needs to deal with that. I haven't used it for a while, mostly for just that reason - I prefer to know what's going on behind my back.

I'm using taglister and archivist to generate the tags.

To get the filtered results I'm using a home grown snippet which then calls pdoPage / pdoResources.

I even tried deleting all snippet calls from the page but I found I could still enter url www.domain.com/mypage/tag/bananas and it stuck on mypage without give a 404. It's almost like modx has remembered this page is ok with a querystring.
