    Hello

I have recently started using MODX Revolution because a client has several sites already built on this CMS and I need to make some changes, I have no access to the server so no SSH/phpmyadmin or SQL access. I need to take a copy of the site and database to move onto my server for development under a sub domain of my dev area - I really hate developing in live (so I will be changing the domain of the site whilst in development before moving it back to its original hosting)

Is there anyway I can take a copy of the site's files and database from within the manager as a package or am I fighting a losing battle here? (Have found a way to download the site files but not the database)

As I am quite new to MODX a link to a specific process as some guidance would be a great help, have used other content management systems before (WP/Joomla!/Magento) but normally had access to the server making my life a lot easier.

Really hoping this is possible, looking forward to hearing from the community, I have read some really good things about MODX and the guys on these forums over the past couple of days.

    Thanks

    Martyn

I don't think it's possible without something like phpMyAdmin, not from within the manager, though I can't talk about making packages.

However, sometimes what I've done is develop the templates, chunks and so on, outside then ported them in. You're absolutely right about developing off your live site, and also at least needing a DB to restore from … surely your clients must be able to get access to the DB somehow?

There's a site-exporting extra called Vapor. If you have FTP access, you might be able to get somewhere with that.

          What about DataBackup?

I never used it, but could be what you're looking for, no?

Thanks guys going to take a look at Databackup and Vapor now.

The clients previous developer doesn't seem very willing to give me access, still trying to sort this at the moment.

Have sent a request to the host for access to SSH or phpmyadmin, hopefully this will be approved, Vapor doesn't seem to copy all of the site files, Databackup doesn't seem like the best method either, would rather avoid getting errors during the transfer.

I will get back to you if I have any further issues.

              Thanks again for the help

You have to be logged in as a Manager user for Vapor to package the full site.

Going to give Vapor another try now, does it take the database and content across? from what I read vapor seems to be for moving to MODX cloud from revolution or have I got incorrect information?

What was wrong with Databackup out of interest? It looked to me like it would dump the DB for you which is half the problem at least?

Hope you resolve things with the previous developer.
