    Hello,

I have spent a fairly considerable amount of time redoing my site in ModX. My existing site online has a number of incoming links pointing to static pages i.e. website.com/icons.html and website.com/banners.html.

I want to completely replace my online site with the ModX version, which I have been running locally.

I am concerned about whether it is possible for the incoming links to carry on being associated with static HTML pages, as it is essential for my online ranking. Is this possible or am I just overlooking something obvious? huh

Wouldn’t it be easier just to activate friendly url’s in the configuration, and setting the suffix to .html, and naming the documents in the same way as on the static pages? That way, weblinks are not needed.

Interesting. . . would this work? I’m going to try it anyway - I’ve heard some people have difficulty setting up friendly urls, so I’m sure I’ll be no exception.

If you’re on a Linux server, you should have no problems at all. I have never had a problem, and have probably installed at least 50 sites. On some servers I need to uncomment the #Options +FollowSymlinks line. Otherwise, it just works.

Hmm, I’m having difficulties with this one.

I’m getting Server error! Error 500

My .htaccess file looks like this without the comments:

                RewriteEngine On
                RewriteBase /modx
                RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
                RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
                RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

I’m running XAMP on a windows machine. Any quickfire solutions for pinpointing the problem?

Friendly URL’s work fine on my XAMPP / WinXP installation.

Are you sure this one is correct: RewriteBase /modx

I install modx in the document root, so in my htaccess rewrite base is: RewriteBase /

Do you work with Virtual Hosts on your local installation, or with what URL do you access the page?

Yep RewriteBase /modx is fine I think. My URL is http://localhost/modx/.

I am running Vista (yipes) but I haven’t had any issues so far.

Is mod_rewrite enabled? Check your httpd.conf for the following line:

                      LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so

In necessary, uncomment it. After changes in httpd.conf, you need to restart Apache.
