I need to be able to use the "Manage Files" feature to upload file to /assets/templates/sometemplate/MY_Directories.

How can i configure modx to be able to do that. I had the same site installed on 2 different servers, and one allows me to, but the other says that "Upload feature inhibited". Is there a way i can get around that? On the server where this is working, i did not have to set any of those directories to 777 at all. Any ideas?

If the file permissions for the /assets/templates folder is set so that the php script can write to it, you should be able to upload.

Well, you should be able to upload to the "assets/images" folder; check it and see what it’s set to. If PHP is running as an Apache module, most likely any folders you want to write to will have to be set to 777.

Most likely that other server will be set up so that apache has user or group rights to the directory. You’ll need to talk to whoever manages your servers, as this is out of the scope of ModX. If apache has write access, so does ModX

On the server that doesn’t need 777 permissions, you’ll probably find that the Server API (as displayed in the phpinfo() output) is CGI. Either that, or it’s using a mod_suexec of some kind. This server is using an apache module, so permissions have to be set differently. I always make sure my hosting has some kind of suexec working so that I never have to have anything set to 777.
