the MODx Cloud, of course, but if that's a bit too rich for your or your client's budget, SkyToaster.
The reason for the MODx Cloud should be obvious
The reason for SkyToaster is its active involvement in these forums particularly in the person of AMDBuilder, aka Patrick, and the fact that they use MODx for their own website. Their pricing is good, too.
SkyToaster is excellent. I'd also recommend these as MODX-friendly hosts:

Thank you both for the recommendation.
We do work hard to perfect our servers for running MODX (and just about anything else for that matter), if you have questions feel free to ask.
There's a longer list of MODX-friendly hosts here:

It's a great blessing to know that if your MODX site is weirding out, that your hosting support tech knows what the heck it is, and even better... often how to fix it.
My vote, as always... SkyToaster. You won't find better MODX support with any other host. Plus they're dirt freakin cheap!
Hi,
I have to say being as cheap as I am I generally go with unmanaged VPS'. The cheapest I've found so far is one called BlueVM. You can get a decent VPS for $40/yr when on sale. If you're good at optimizing basic sites you could hit $15/yr for a basic VPS with dedi IP.

Yes, a few years ago I had a gorgeous Solaris-clone unmanaged VPS with entic.net. While I loved server admin, I just don't have the eyes or the energy for it any more, and they do need maintenance. I see they're more expensive now than they were when they were just getting started, though.
