I am currently using a multi-user Wordpress install (WordpressMU) to power the blogs for my site members. But, it’s been getting spammed with fake account (even after enacting steps to combat it), so I was looking for something that could tie into my MODx install.

I remember the "default" install for MODx having a blog, but 1) I don’t remember what powered it and 2) Does it allow for users to "create" their own blog and post in it?

      1) the blog tools in the demo site are ditto, reflect, jot and newspublisher.

      2) I don’t know.

I’ve been looking for this level of usability as well. Something like wordpress mu and bbpress integration ---
where a site can allow users to have multiple blogs and multiple forums with the same user id.
Is this possible with modx, and if so how?

Isn’t there a plugin/module that can "restrict" what a person can see in the Manager?

It might be cumbersome, but have a form for users to create a Manager account (aka a Blog account). Then restrict them to only what they need to see. Have "tags" set up to create the headings/date/etc., and use Ditto to "sort" the blog posts by whatever tags/dates you want, and use Jot to make the comments.

Might take a little while to set it up, but it would make spam nonexistant, because the Admin has to make the accounts. Unless you made a script to create Manager users on the fly.

In any case, I’ll try this idea out and letcha know how it works. smiley

It may be more efficient to simply create the blogs and use newspublisher or FDM to restrict who can publish or post by limiting it to a specific group and allow editing in the front-end. For this you would need a document group (or user group, not sure about the different groups yet) for each user. Which will bring me back to the question I have asked in other posts of automatically creating the needed group at registration. New user equals new group.

FDM = Front Document Mamager, right? Yeah, that might work. I’ll look into that. Thanks for the suggestion. smiley

If you can create the unique user on registration this could be a cool feature.

I use WLPE, which can specify the usergroups one joins. So I could set them into a Blog-able group secretly, have a form for them to fill out to "set up" the page (basically, creating it for them and enabling FDM on that specific page (I’ll have to check if it does so --- I’d be suprised if it didn’t)). Then I give them the URL, and they can edit.

But, as you said, it needs to be a usergroup only for them, else anyone could edit anyone elses page!  wink

For now, I would have to manually create it, but I’m gonna check with Scotty as to how to make a random group, like blog1, blog2, blog3, get added on registration --- he might know how to do it in WLPE.

EDIT: I just thought of something --- doing it the FDM way creates an issue where comments can’t be done on a specific blog post, because of how it’s done, all of the posts will be on one big page. Since user commenting is something I need, I might need to use Ditto/etc. to do this...

Not sure about this. I think that you can use FDM to create new pages for each post and in the template you add the Jot call so that it is available for all posts. I have not done this yet, but I think that this should work. In the demo site they use NewsPublisher in this same way.

Oh, you mean like it having a "New Document" option or something?
