CSS Resource wont save?

I have recently updated the modx version to 2.2.6-pl. Also updated all the add-ons. I had some issues with gallery thumbnails but fixed that with little issue. But as a result I need to edit the CSS a bit which needs just adding a line or two. It wont save at all. The status bar continues to move but it never completes. I tried a work around by simply creating new CSS resources and was going to copy and paste the content over, thinking perhaps those resources had some how been corrupted, etc. I cant even add the Copy and paste content a new CSS resource. It wont save either.

I decided ultimately simply to add an additional CSS resource and Voila it worked! But the question I have is why? Why cant I edit the orginal CSS resource?

At this stage its not an issue, but if I need to make adjustments to the orginal CSS resource, I will have delete and completely replace it somehow. Is there a setting I need to change? Or did the upgrade get corrupted?

It's possible that the upgrade is corrupted, but another possibility is that the permissions or ownership of the original CSS file is incorrect.

Ok Im now experiencing this same problem with a fresh install on a completely different site. So im thinking the later... Permissions somewhere is incorrect. How do I correct the permissions?

To be clear, I am copy & pasting the original CSS text to a clean CSS resource and simply referencing that resource in my html head. Adding small bits of code sometimes works to a fresh resource. But with my existing site, editing the old CSS I get the saving hang up. This morning I just discovered a line of CSS i need to change but I cant get save to work sad

Did the CSS resources some how get locked from editing maybe with the upgrade? And with a fresh install, I assume it may be a system setting I need to correct, be it temporarily. But which one and where?

Does it work again if you undo your css changes? If so, can you post the original and the changed css here? Do you get any errors in the javascript console (Firebug, Chrome Dev Tools). If it works with let's say a part of that css, you could also try to add rule by rule and see which one causes the hang...

You can see and change the permissions by right-clicking on the file in the Files tab and selecting 'chmod'. The appropriate permissions depend on how the server is set up.

Ok Im not too familiar with the browser consoles, so if I am pulling the wrong info I apologize in advance.
What I did was with firefox, open web console and make a small change to the CSS resource, like a space or editing the "description" and click save. This is truncated of course, but shows what I think is relevant. It ended up being quite a few lines, with some css errors. Which I thought was strange.

It seems this issue for CSS resources shares some similar problems across different instances. These are 3 sites I have referenced that all hang up while ONLY trying to update/save CSS resources. My current work around is referencing the CSS stylesheet directly in the filesystem tree. Which I suppose is fine, but I do like editing the CSS in the Resource Tree, keeps things nice and "neat".

Bob are you referring to Chmod directory? I only saw this option for folders and have Mode 0755. I am primarily looking at the files in the Assets folder. I hope I understood you correctly.

If all the folders are 0755 and everything else works, that's probably correct.

Try turning off the compress_js and compress_css System Settings.

Both settings are off... I get no change still hangs up when trying to save.

MODX doesn't care about the validity of your CSS or JS files when doing a save. It just saves the file as is.

I can only think of a few more possibilities:

corrupt or missing file in the install, especially if you copied them individually with FTP
mod_security is on on the server (nothing to do with MODX) and doesn't like something in the CSS file or its filename
Something is wrong with the configuration of your media sources
The ownership of the CSS directory is wrong (server issue)

Any of those possibilities make perfect sense to me. So im wondering what would change or affect any of those by updating modx. Cause thats really all ive done. I have poked around and its consistently in the web console shows a SyntaxError and points to the ext-all.js Is there any reason this Java Function there would cause the problem or is that just failing to run because of the above mentioned possibilities?

Also I upgraded with Softaculous app installer, any way that could have caused this issue? And wouldnt I notice this problem saving with other resources?

*edit: I have noticed a Trend. It has something to do with the Copy & Paste of data. If I limit the copy and paste of a few lines I can save with no issue. But if its more than say 20 lines it hangs up. I have left it saving for 30 mins thinking the server is slow in responding. << this is for empty CSS resources.
