    Do they actually work?

I've read quite a lot about tags but can't seem to decipher whether they actually work or not. Do you have to do some customization to get them working?

Can anybody point me in the right direction on how to use the tags and the archive component of this?

Are you asking about Tags used by the Articles Extra? They do work. Place this in your site template that the Article uses [[+tags]].
In the backend, the article/blog entry you are editing, look for the Tags: input box, bottom right of the page. Enter your word(s) for one tag. For two or more tags, separate each with a comma and no space.

I hope I understood your question.

          Hi Thanks for replying.

I have this [[+article_tags]] which displays a list of the tags I've put in the article using the Tags input box.

When I click on a tag however it just redirects back to the homepage.

Is there some other setup required to show a list of resources tagged with a word?

          Thanks.

If you have a live example, and can show, please show.

Top of my head, I'll guess: did you set the <base href="[[++site_url]]" /> in the <head> of your template

What URL is the tag output actually generating, in other words what's the href of the link you're clicking? I'll confess, I haven't used the Articles add on yet, but when tagging with something like getResources, the tag link is usually directed to a page containing a script call that grabs the tag from the URL param and generates a list of articles via filtering, but I may be way off with Articles, and probably am, and will shut up now.

Once again thanks for taking the time to reply.

The site I have is still in development but can be seen here - www.dnadigitaltv.co.uk/testing

The news page which has some dummy content in it at present has tags.

Claytonk - the url that's being generated is like this - http://dnadigitaltv.co.uk/testing/index.php?id=2/tags/Carp

I'll just warn you my menu is buggy in IE.
                Thanks.

Yeah, this is basically looking for a landing page that has a script call in it that knows how to parse the tags from the URL string. In this case, because the URL isn't being parsed it's just sending you to your default error page (your home page it appears). Without having used Articles, it seems like you'd need to reset the landing page for these links to a resource with a getResources call to parse the tag and search for articles filtered by that tag. If Articles has this sort of functionality built in, I'm not familiar enough with it to help.

I am not sure Articles Addon works its fullest with Friendly Url turned off. Someone please correct me.
Hopefully you have nothing against FURL, and your server allows you to make the below changes...

For diagnosis sake, turn on Friendly Url in System settings. [Click Systems / System Settings/ search for friendly in the filter]
Create a .htaccess file and ftp/toss it into the /testing/ folder (I suppose that's where your MODx installation is?)
                    Make this its content
                    RewriteEngine On
                    RewriteBase /testing/
                    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
                    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
                    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

                    What happens now?

By the way, most of the tag parsing I've done in the past would have used a string more like

Seems like slashes are a bad idea in a URL. Again, don't know Articles, so I'll shut up now.
