I have placed [[!SimpleSearch]] and [[!SimpleSearchForm]] on the Articles Frontpage (the Cointainer one).

It seems Frontpage(Container) triggers an Search-attempt by calling its url.

If i call the url it says:
"There were no search results for the search "". Please try using more general terms to get more results."

On all other Pages (Articles) there is no Problem.

    I really wonder about this.

Has anybody a hint for me please?

    Greetings Chris

I need some help now, time is running.

Can somebody confirm that Simplesearchform and Simplesearchoutput at the Articles Frontcontainer results a search trigger by calling the url?

      Greetings Chris

        Ok verified some things...

IT'S NOT THE ISSUE at http://rtfm.modx.com/display/ADDON/SimpleSearch.SimpleSearchForm under ERRORS...

but looks the same... the explanation is related that the issue is AFTER SENDING...

In my case it happens just by calling the URL Articles itself.

minChars seems not to work too...

I am very confused... i can do a search... everything works, but by calling the page url i got this:
"There were no search results for the search "". Please try using more general terms to get more results."

But no search done in this case.

I also add a search button, to get around that automatic searching... but i can#t get rid of that message by calling the Articles main-url.

        Greetings Chris

I call SimpleSearch like this in my Articles templates:

          [[SimpleSearchForm? &tpl=`TEMPLATE_NAME` &landing=`ID_OF_SEARCH_RESULTS_LANDING_PAGE`]]

Then on the search landing page:

          [[!SimpleSearch? &tpl=`CHUNK_NAME_FOR_RESULT_ITEM` &perPage=`10` &containerTpl=`CHUNK_NAME_FOR_CONTAINER`]]

This works just as expected. Maybe your issue is that you've included both snippet calls on the front page of your articles container? I would usually have the SimpleSearch snippet call on a separate page specifically just to show results on, not on the articles landing page.

          Hope that help! smiley

            Thank you!

Mixing SimpleSearch and SimpleSearchForm in one Page is one of the Examples of SimpleSearch in Doc.
So i don't understand why it works on the ArticeSubs but not on ArticlesFrontpage.

I have created a Subpage now in Articles and placed SimpeSearch there with publishingdate far away in history,
but this issue is real for me, and this is only something like a workaround.

I need this because all that blogstuff looses its info (recent posts, comments, categories etc.) when i use a external Page. (no wonder because its no Articles Page then)
So my attempt was to have SimpleSearchForm right above Recent Posts and Output in the main Container right above the Blogentries... this worked when stying at the sub articles but not at the Frontpage.

So i have a workaround but not a fix.

I would be interessted if anybody has this issue with SimpleSearch and SimpleSearchForm at the Frontpage of Articles too.
Maybe there is a way into this to have a cleaner attempt for this.

            Thank you for reply.

If I get some time over the next few days I will try and set up articles how you've described and see if I can replicate the problem. Have you tried adding &landing=`[[*id]]` to the simplesearch snippet call? That should tell the form that the landing page for results is the same page you're on. That should also work on sub pages within articles too.

If I can replicate I'll update this thread.

              Cheers.

                Thank you!

Yes, i did that dynamic attemp of landingpage too.

Would be great to have a information about if its replicable.

Just have one article and place SimpleSearch and SimpleSearchForm on both templates MainContainer (Frontpage) and Subs (Articles).

So you will have Searchform and Searchoutput in the main and Subs also...

In my case i got that "" search thing.

                Great!!!!

                Thank you!!!

                    Just to clarify:

You are saying that SimpleSearch and SimpleSearchForm together in an Articles Container cause what to happen? a search trigger by calling the url? What do you mean? Do explain, so that I know what to replicate on my system...I am trying to check out the issue...

                    Cheers.

On my modx project the result of placing an simplesearch and siplesearchform within one and the same articles page results on pageload an empty string search.
So if i am londing that page, i will get a message that this empty string isn't found anywhere.

So it seems simplesearch outputting an predefined string or simplesearchform/articles is triggerung an empty submit.

To verify you maybe only have to install articles. then create a content page, with simplesearch and simplesearchform at it.
By reloading the page in Frontend it should happen that there is that empty search message triggered i think.

                      with best regards.
