We are offering free Starter hosting plans until 2013 to those (humans) who ask. Yep, that’s right free hosting! If you are wondering how you get the hosting, the rules are simple:

1. You have an account on the MODX forums
2. You are a human and will use the account for legitimate purposes.
3. You email [email protected] to request an account
4. You give us honest feedback about performance and your satisfaction

The Fine Print: Free accounts are manually setup on our servers, allowing us to verify you’re human. The hosting server location will be based on available resources. Upon switching to a paid account, you’ll be able to choose your server location and we’ll handle the rest. All accounts are subject to our hosting terms of service—in short don’t abuse the server.

Q: How many accounts can I setup?
A: There aren’t any limits. Please note that we may deny unreasonable requests.

Q: Do I have to have a domain name?
A: Yes, this offer requires that you own a domain name. We can help you set one up for a very affordable $12/year for .com and .net domain names and we handle all of your DNS on our globally-distributed DNS cluster. Alternatively, you can point your existing domain to our DNS.

Q: What if I want something more powerful than basic shared hosting?
A: For clients who need a little more horsepower or want to host many client sites on one server, we’re also offering a 15% discount for the first two months on all of our VPS plans. Simply use the promo code MODXVPS when ordering or mention it when speaking with us.

Q: Why are you doing this?
A: We love MODX, and we especially love helping the MODX community have access to the best servers for their website.

Q: What’s the catch?
A: No catch. The hosting is free till the end of the year (provided you don’t abuse the server or break our terms of service). You are welcome to leave at any time, just send us an e-mail.

I've seen nothing but rave reviews of SkyToaster. By all accounts they are a fabulous MODX-friendly hosting service.

They also provide domain registration and SSL certificates. I've been told they'll be offering an email service as well, which is good to know for Cloud users since Google has dropped its free small-business package that allowed up to 10 email accounts. I'm still not sure of the details, and am waiting until after the holidays to start nagging for more information.

@sottwell Yeah too bad google dropped the free accounts, I guess it's a question of time before we have to pay for analytics as well

@sottwell You have an excellent source, stay tuned just after the first of the year We do offer two free 100MB accounts with every domain using the same platform currently. If anyone needs more than two accounts before the start of next year, ask nicely you never know

While it's already known I like SkyToaster too, I'd just like to add another +1 here.

On the 31st the Toast offices were officially closed, but a support ticket I sent in was still answered in just a few hours. May not seem like much, but considering it was primarily a "how do I" question on how to setup something specific on my VPS (and I was out to celebrate the end of the year shortly after sending in the ticket), I think it's super awesome to get an response on such a timeframe. During normal working hours they are faster of course, up to near-instant when I catch Patrick or Sal on Skype.

Oh.. and in this case Patrick didn't just answer the question, but went the extra mile and even made the change I was looking to implement, saving me work. Wooh!

I always try to resolve the problem (/implement the solution), as responding to ask more questions is just annoying in my book.

Now to get back into regular work mode, dang back to back holidays throwing things off!

I can vouch for Skytoaster - they are one of the best MODX Hosters in the business. I have referred people to them and they are pleased with their services. If youre looking for a good host - Skytoaster definitely would get my vote.

I like SkyToaster so much that I moved all my 50+ clients over to them last year. I can't speak highly enough of Patrick, Sal and all of the ST crew. Not only are they knowledgeable and responsive but they are genuinely nice folks--patient, thorough, and always willing to go the extra mile to accommodate my clients. These guys simply have the right attitude, and if I could stuff the hosting ballot box for them, I would.
