I've installed Articles 1.4.7 on a revo site (running on revo 2.2.0), installed well and now i have the beginnings of a blog which is great. I'm not sure where to go next and wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction, since i've already searched everywhere-

The captcha box doesn't appear to be working for comments although it's set to being on in the security tab of advanced settings (when i view a post on the blog, there is a line next to the captcha that reads "To use reCAPTCHA you must get an API key from http://recaptcha.net/api/getkey Although this link returns a 404 message.

And where would i start in order to change the default template for the blog. I'd like the blog to sit within the template all the other site pages sit inside so it's all in keeping.

There's a search box at the top of the blog which is great, however it appears to load the home page of the main website when the field is completed.

    Any pointers would be appreciated.

      1. To use ReCaptcha you have to have an account with them http://www.google.com/recaptcha

      2. The templates, one for the main Articles container and one for the individual articles, are in the Elements tab, Templates, Articles. DO NOT MODIFY THESE TEMPLATES! Instead, duplicate them, rename your duplicates, and edit those duplicates. Then in the main Articles configuration page, set the container and articles templates to your new templates. (the problem with editing the original templates is that they will be overwritten if you upgrade the Articles package).

      3. It's probably loading the home page because it's causing a 404 (not found) error, and by default MODx uses resource #1 as the "not found" and "unauthorized" pages. It's a good idea to create a new resource to be your 404 Not Found page, and in the System Settings set the "not found" resource to the ID of your new 404 Not Found page. It helps avoid confusing not only yourself but your visitors as well.

Thanks a lot, i did get a recaptcha account set up and have my private and public key, but where to put them? I went into the system settings for quip and can't see the setting listed there to add the keys (there's 5 settings appearing in there for quip). Are these two settings i need to add manually inside the system settings grid for quip?

They aren't in the quip section of the system settings, they are in recaptcha.

Found it ( https://forums.modx.com/thread/37827/quipreply---example-with-recaptcha-please ), this explains exactly where to add the two keys.

I have the re-captcha working and ironed out other little niggles, but finding it impossible to use the template that all other site pages use. I can't get my head around this, I know to duplicate both default templates before making any edits which i have done. But if i then replace the html and change the css file to use, it's all over the place with no styling. Is there any key points to note here when trying to integrate the blog / 'articles' functionality into my main site template? Why can't i just select a template for the blog as i do with all other pages in the site.. [ed. note: jaykaye last edited this post 14 years, 2 months ago.]

Sorry for the thick questions, i might just be getting there (i'd missed something as minor as not referencing style sheets and images correctly now they'd be up one directory)

You'll get there. It takes a little working with it to get it understood.

I'm getting there aright, quite impressed now it's coming together. Is there any reason why the url may be appearing twice, for example- site.com/blog/our-blog/blog/our-blog/date-and-post-here.html

Also, i've set the RSS fields, but nothing appears on the page, is there a way to get the orange RSS feed to show next to the tags, latest posts etc. (and in order for this feature to work, does the blog need to be set up so that visitors register with the site?)

This happens sometimes. Based on my setup, I had to manually fix the templates because Articles (or the makeUrl() call) keeps using relative URLs instead of absolute.

If you go into the template(s), you can simply place a '/' in front of the addresses and they'll work fine. If there is another fix, I am not aware of it. I've tried nearly every setting I could think of before resorting to that.

Failure is just another word for saying you didn't want to try. "It can't be done" means "I don't know how".
