    Hey all,

Sorry if this is right in front of my face, but for the life of me I can't fnd it and I feel it should be trivial.

Looking at using ModX for a new enterprise site I'm building. One of the key issues is scheduled updates to already published pages.

For example, there is an investors page that currently shows the current quarter's financial reports.

    eg: http://mysite.com/financials

I would like to pre edit/save the page with the next quarter's financial details. I want these changes to replace the existing page content at precisely 7:00am 1 week/ 1 month/ 1 year from now (whatever)

How is this possible? I see you can have publish dates on resources - that's pretty straight forward. I just don't see a way to add a new version to go live at a specified date/time.

    Thanks all

I think that would take a custom snippet. You could put the data in separate chunks and have the snippet pull the correct one based on the date and time.

Or you could put the data in separate resources and have the snippet pull the correct one with getResourceField() (assuming that you're using Revolution).

Seems to me the easiest way to do this is duplicate the resource, make the changes and have it unpublish the old version at the same date and time you publish the updated version. Just make sure they have the same alias, this is just a theory but it should work without doing any custom snippets or any other crazy stuff.

Let us know if it works, good luck.

I think we need a workflow module.

Any organisation that's listed on an exchange could use functionality that incorporates approval and timed publication. Also need proper security over pre-published content to avoid any breaches of financial regulations.

I've got one listed site that uses Evolution with a Staging and Live server. Still requires users to push the publish button but syncs the sites automatically.

            Mark,

This is EXACTLY my scenario. You have hit my nail right on the head smiley

I also was hoping to have a staging/live server setup. Any tips or resources you could point me to would be appreciated.

            Thanks!

I would follow Bob's advice and use a snippet to pull different chunks based on the current date/time. It would be simple enough that you could call it uncached without too much overhead.

Approval is more difficult. Sounds like a good idea for a new Extra.

I think I have an Extra in my head that will do both date- and approval- based staging, but don't hold your breath -- it may be a while before I get around to it. wink

this is for Evolution but I don't see why it can't be adapted for Revolution.

                    Hey BobRay,

Well, I'm looking at a December-ish launch so I'll hold my breath a little bit ok? smiley

I'm getting some pressure to use Joomla, but I really like the admin and flexibility of ModX. It's soooo close to being just right!

                    Thanks

It could definitely happen by then. wink
