What version of MODX? You shouldn't need write access to a connector that I know of. More likely is that somewhere you're missing a MODX path... your PHP error logs should print FULL paths to a file, e.g. /home/youruser/public_html/connectors/system/registry/register.php -- so that partial path there looks like MODX is trying to read something from a non-existant directory. Triple check your MODX config file (especially the paths and the URLs).
ran into the same issue, any resolution on this?

This could be caused by a misconfiguration of Apache, too... e.g. if a parent folder isn't owned by the right user/group or the permissions schema is off... but if your path starts right with a forward slash (i.e. it's at the root of your server), then I think the most likely explanation is that your paths are misconfigured because nobody would install a site at the root of a server.
Paths looked correct to me and pointed all to the subdirectory <htmlroot>/modx/ so i guess its a permission problem.

That's a path problem; when a path starts with / that means the root of the file system. A URL that start with / means the root of the web server's webspace. Two different things. Here's my localhost config.inc.php section for connectors_path:
$modx_connectors_path= '/Users/sottwell/Desktop/Working/htdocs/revo226/connectors/';
$modx_connectors_url= '/revo226/connectors/';
define('MODX_CONNECTORS_PATH', $modx_connectors_path);
define('MODX_CONNECTORS_URL', $modx_connectors_url);
}
You'll notice that the path is the full path from my filesystem root, while the URL is only from the web root.

If your paths are all Ok, I would suspect permissions problems first (in which case the setup/upgrade script should help you identify errors), and secondly I might look into security errors, e.g. with mod_security (if you have that installed on your server).
