Audio player problem

Hi, creating my first modx site and been trying to install an audio player. Been trying the XSPF playing using this link:
http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Adding_Audio_Player_to_ModX#Embedding_the_XSPF_Player_in_Your_Site
Been following it to the letter but nothing? Won't even show on the page. Even tried a premiumbeat player from an old static site - nothing, won't even show. Double checked all the paths, all correct. Everying in the assets folder as it should be.

I don't know where to start troubleshooting, as nothing appearing on the page. Has anyone else had success with an audio player or got any input would be very grateful. I'm tearing my hair out!
Thanks
Martin

Hello,

What version of MODX are you using?

Hi, revolution 2.2.2. I've tried 3 audio players and none of them work. I've now installed dewplayer but the documentation falls short of telling me where to put my mp3s/xml file and how to link to them. Any help would be appreciated.

The tutorial you linked is for MODX Evolution, not Revolution.
You can try to use JWPlayer, is really good, well documented and easy to use.

Thanks, I couldn't find it on the modx extras page, so I've downloaded it from the makers site. BTW, was I right to start using revolution, should I have started on evolution as a newbie, it's all so confusing to me?

Hi, AFAIK there are no addons for JWPlayer, but because of the excellent documentation of the player, it is really easy to integrate it with MODX.

See an example of integration here. Please note that I've used MODX Evolution syntax, on MODX Revolution it is slightly different.

BTW, was I right to start using revolution, should I have started on evolution as a newbie, it's all so confusing to me?

Some people will suggest you to use Revolution and other will suggest you to use Evolution, at the end of the day it's a matter of personal preference. If you feel comfortable with Revolution stick with it, the learning curve for the basic features of both CMS is basically the same.

Thanks, this has really helped

microcipcip, I downloaded JWPlayer, but the documentation was all about video and mp4, where as I want to give the viewer the option of playing a list of mp3s. I couldn't work out how to implement it?

Hi, see this page: http://www.longtailvideo.com/support/jw-player/jw-player-for-flash-v5/19824/playlist-support-in-the-jw-player

In the examples you should just change the format from mp4 to mp3 and JWplayer should recognize it.

I have forgot to mention that you can't remove JWPlayer logo from inside the video (which disappear after 3 or 4 seconds anyway) unless you pay the commercial license. But if you use the small version of the player that's not visibile I think. [ed. note: microcipcip last edited this post 14 years, 4 months ago.]

There is also Flowplayer that is OpenSource and free (but you have to pay a license to remove the watermark like on JWplayer).

I prefer JWplayer though, it seems easier to use. [ed. note: microcipcip last edited this post 14 years, 4 months ago.]
