I just upgraded my site to .9.6 today and after the update the pages started to load extremely slow.

Does anyone have any ideas why?

    Thanks
    Brian

    Server setup:
    Apache 2.0.59
    PHP 5.2.3
    MySQL 5.0.37
    MODxCMS 0.9.6

      Is caching switched on?

Is it a shared server? I’ve seen no performance issues with MODx 0.9.6, though I’ve not tested PHP 5.2.3 yet personally. Also we really need much more information (see the "help us help you" link in my signature...).

Yes it is a shared sever but I control all the domains on it, there are only 7 total. (its a VPS)

.9.5 runs great in this setup
.9.6 there is a noticeable slowdown

          Now the setup...

          Web Server:

PHP 5.2.3 (its a loaded module i believe suexe, definatly not cgi)
          Apache 2.0.59
          Fedora Core 2

          Database:
          MySQL 5.0.37
          1 table over 1mb "modx_site_content" which is 1.39mb

          MODx:
          Version 0.9.6
          Version codename rev 2767

I havn’t changed any core elements but there are custom snippets and everything is cached that can be cached.
The entire site loads slow (not a specific page)

Plugins running: Google Analytics Plugin by Mark Kaplan, HyperStabilo, Pip (Pagination Plugin) (modidied) and then all the standard plugins running by default.

Browser/Client: loads slow in safari 2 and Firefox 2
          I’m on a Mac OS X 10.4.9

I just updated to apache 2/mysql5 and php5 becuase in the readme file is said that there would be performance gains. I can switch back to php4 and it still is very slow loading. If it wasn’t for the dev site i would say that it is my most recent setup. but since the .9.5 is running fine on the "live" site I dont’ think that is the problem.

The temp account is a bit too restrictive ... tongue

Try to add the following code at the template footer to see the processing timings:
            MySQL: [^qt^], [^q^] request(s), PHP: [^p^], total: [^t^], document retrieved from [^s^].

Hope this will give u some clues if php or mysql is taking more time than usual.

              looks like it is php...

              .9.6: MySQL: 0.3247 s, 147 request(s), PHP: 1.9369 s, total: 2.2616 s, document retrieved from database.

              .9.5: MySQL: 0.1681 s, 148 request(s), PHP: 2.4788 s, total: 2.6469 s, document retrieved from database.

Which is strange since It feels like it loads faster...

I will try to install the recomeneded php version and see if that helps.

                Now you’ve confused me. huh

Which is slower, 0.9.5 or 0.9.6? Cause this indicates 0.9.5 was slightly faster from the DB, and 0.9.6 is faster overall, but with a little more time spent on the queries. And that actually makes sense, as 0.9.6 now executes a SET CHARACTER SET statement after each connection to MySQL, which would explain the extra time in MySQL.

What is really curious is what is taking 1 and 2 seconds to complete? I don’t have any pages that take longer than 0.5s total to complete on any server I use. Sounds like you may have some very poor performing snippets on these pages, or there is something super slow in regards to your PHP configuration.

Do you have the template switcher plugin installed? How many documents do you have?

It appeared that 9.6 was slower but in actual numbers it IS FASTER

i disabled the template switcher plugin and i still get 2-3 second php times.

there is currently about 400 documents and basically all of the pages use wayfinder and ditto.

At this point i dont think downgrading php to 5.1.6 will help

                      Delete the Template Switcher completely.
