New to working with CMS, need help with structure

Hi!

I have always enjoyed working with design, web design and HTML/CSS, but it's been something of a minor hobby. A while back, however, somebody asked me to do her a favor and redesign her web site.

She wants to be able to edit the web site herself but she's not anything of a computer person, so I want to create a web site with MODx constructed in such a fashion that she easily can edit a few key elements of the site.

To be specific, take a look at this image: http://i.imgur.com/UcsaE.png

I want the four text fields to be easily editable, but this far my inexperience in working with CMS shows. I'm really lost and don't know how to achieve this.

As allways with modx, there are several ways you can go.

You can create 4 Resources under one folder.
One image-TV for the image.

Add the content into the content-field and choose the image in the image-TV for all four Resources.

Seems you are on Evo, since you posted under modx 101.
So you can use Ditto to list these four Resources on this page.

Another way would be to create 4 image-TVs and 4 Textarea or richtext-TVs and manage the contents for all 4 boxes in one Resource with this TVs.

As Bruno17 suggest, I think you'll want to make the separate Template Variables.

If you are using Evolution, I think you could have the user log in in the front end (rather than the Manager) and edit those sections with QuickEdit.

If you are using Revolution, you could use NewsPublisher in the front end to let the user edit each of the four TVs.

I'll try the different solutions suggested. I believe your pointers should be enough, otherwise I'll make another post in this thread. Thanks for the tutorial recommendations as well.

By the way, I'm using the latest Revo build. Did I create my thread in the wrong subforum?

I've created three TVs per field; one for the image, one for the heading, one for the text. I want everything to be pre-formated so that my client only has to change the actual text and not tags or styles.

Is this (three TVs per field) a reasonable approach for that goal? Will there be any performance issues if I use multiple TVs per page?

Hm. Three minutes after writing my previous post the manager suddenly stopped working. When I go to mydomain.com/manager I meet a completely blank page, no matter which browser I use.

What just happened? Did MODx break? I can still access mydomain.com normally.

If you are using Revolution there is a specific forum for that.

I don't think that your approach is wrong, it is always better to use as few Template Variables as possible, but for 10 TVs per page I wouldn't worry too much about performance. Also, there is a Revolution Extras which you can download from the manager on "System > Package Management > Download Extras" called MIGX, it allows you to create just one Template Variable and use it multiple times.

About the blank page, usually it is a cache issue. Try the following:
1. Open the Manager and go to "Site > Clear Cache"
2. Delete everything from this folder "yourwebsite\core\cache"
3. Delete the browser cache
