    Hi,
I am trying to install Modx Evolution 1.0.5 for the first time on my computer for learning purposes, and am having some problems doing so. I am mostly a designer, however do have some experience with development. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

    Some details about my setup:
    * OSX Lion (all latest updates)
    * MAMP (including all latest updates)
    * VirtualHostX (which allows me to use urls such as dev.modx.dev instead of localhost/)
I have tested in both Chrome and Firefox, with no differences in results.
Note that I tried both installing the sample site and not, with no differences either. I was able to install directly to a real web domain (however I prefer a localhost domain at the moment). Note I was able to also install Revolution without any concerns. I also followed the tutorial here http://rtfm.modx.com/display/Evo1/Basic+Installation, including enabling read-write access for appropriate folders and files.

During the installation process the default database connection method of SET CHARACTER SET and Collation of utf8_general_ci prompts the following error: "failed - database collation mismatch; use SET NAMES or choose latin1_swedish_ci". So when I switch to SET NAMES and use the same collation, I manage to progress right through to pre-install validation (no errors or warnings are listed on this screen). However on the Install Results page I receive the following errors:

Looks like all those tables are present, have you checked your tables in the database to see if they are present, and if so you then you should be fine. One other note, your database prefix might help to add and underscore at the end so your table names are easier to read, not required though. Currently you have it set as "modx_evo" which results in table names like "modx_evoactive_users" vs. "modx_evo_active_users".

Also make sure that the database user information your using has the appropriate permissions to create and alter tables in the database.

You'll need to modify a couple of the installation files.

        /install/setup.sql
        /install/setup.data.sql

        do a search/replace:
        Find: Type=MyISAM
        Change to: ENGINE=MyISAM

That should get it straightened out smiley

Just a thought: You probably know this, but any time you make changes to the schema, you have to re-run parseSchema() to update the class and map files. The schema itself is ignored at runtime.

Maybe there were some tables already created during the first try, go and delete all the tables from the database and run the install again.

@bob: that might work if this was a revo install but not so much for evolution smiley

Thanks for the suggestions. I had already considered partial table installation prior to installation-death, and had already checked that. No tables had been created, so it seems to be that its failing to create any tables at all...

Did you verify that the permission for the user will allow them to create/alter tables? and that the database your trying to install to has be created?

I'm using the default "root" user for the local development, and never had any issues with the other 10 CMS installs (Wordpress, Drupal, etc). I did check the permissions for that user and its good. The database itself does exist. I also tried deleting and recreating a database with a different name, and then installing to that, but no luck there either.

Since I was able to install online quite fine, there is obviously some "problem" with my local machine, but I have absolutely no clue.
