Has anyone got any pointers on how to set up FastCGI php api for a modx site? I' running the Revo 2.1 on a centos/apache media temple DV [Paralells 9] virtual host. Everything is running but there seems to be issues with the include_path[s] - basically the site will work, but it seems that any chunks included in the main template are ignored. The manager does not work at all and does throw an error in the apache log [failed opening, (include_path='.:') etc.]
-thanks

That has to do with a php.ini setting limiting where included files can come from.

There's a good tutorial on securing PHP here

Hello Sean,
Can you configure the server to use suPHP, it may help some with those issues. Also do you have a control panel on the server?
Actually it's turned out to be permissions, more accurately user and group ownership - fastCGI/php execuing as the domain owner seemed to have issues with the cache files [I think] recursively changing ownership of the virtual host directory has things working working right now, though not 100% tested.
Working right now on configuring the vhost to use it's own php.ini so I can enable allow_url_fopen [needed for package management].
@AMDbuilder - yes mediatemple uses paralells~plesk on it's virtual containers.

I have this mostly working right now, but am getting problems with the package manager, here is the error I get:
/*
* MODX Console Output

* @date 2011-12-15 14:53:03
*/
Attempting to install package with signature: getpage-1.2.2-pl
Package found...now preparing to install.

Could not install package with signature: getpage-1.2.2-pl

not sure what is going on here - permissions look correct, the package gets downloaded, the directory is created, but no files get extracted.
any thoughts?

It sounds like you are running into a user problem. If you use ls -l in the command line it should show to the folder/file user.
You may need to use chown to fix some of the permission.
I changed the user/group permissions recursively, files are being downloaded and saved correctly. it just appears that they are not being extracted... ?
no errors in the server logs, and only this one in the modx log ....
am stumped!

comparing what is written when the package manager is used to install a new package, the zip archive is there, the matching directory is written with the manifest.php file, but the modsnippet directory is not created [or extracted??]

Do you have the core directory outside your web root?
nope - the modx part of it is pretty stock... the only odd thing is tht it runs under fastcgi [it works fine if I disable fastcgi .... ]
