I work with modxcms for about a month. Last days while trying to finish my project (which is pretty big for modxcms features) I found that this CMS has no idea about a tool to search in its own content. IMHO, I think that this is a bit lame. All the Ajax, web standardization, SEO, a.s.o., and modxcms does not have a reasonable "search module". Oh... don’t get me wrong, it has. But it seems that is only for internal use, so we, the users cannot benefit this feature.
You might ask yourself why do i consider that it is lame?! Let’s say that, I have a few huge projects, and I’m interested in using modxcms for future project development. Huge projects means multilanguage sites with a lot of content. I use all those beautiful features included in modxcms, I kinda got attached to work with modx, but in the end, I discover that it does not have a small module, not less important, that is a "Search Module".
So, I’m asking, is there anyone who can at least show me a path to find some snippet or module, or whatever it would be to search inside the CMS’s content (excluding googleish search) ?

Ermmm, Modx has many search modules to search within its own content....

AjaxSearch is installed usually by default check your snippets for it..

Do u have a url for your site?

I can’t believe you can’t find the search add-ons either... wink

There are others and variations available in the forums; a quick google search on "search snippet" from the forums reveals a great deal of information.

            Erm, AjaxSearch (core snippet)? Hyperflexsearchform?

Oh... don’t get me wrong, it has. But it seems that is only for internal use, so we, the users cannot benefit this feature.

Internal use? I don´t understand what you are looking for. Could you be more precise and provide some more informations?

            okay, toooo late.

One should always start a search for search with a search.

                1. wink every new step starts with a "search"... so I did some digging before posting.

                2. Yes, there are "a few" modules for search,... that is one, and only with "a few variations" :

If there are more modules, then the search module works wrong.

OK! My anger flew away, but my opinion about the search module remains the same. I still think is shitty! Sorry!

                Have a good day! smiley

I´m also searching. I´m searching for arguments, reasons or other hints why the search is shitty. Hmmm.

At the very least if you’re going to use such incendiary language and hostile tone you could try to explain exactly WHAT about the search modules you don’t like and how you’d like to see them improved. That’s how these forums (and creative communities in general) work. Your opinion is not the problem; your lack of constructive suggestions is.

And there are actually three MODx search modules that are commonly used: FlexSearchForm (recently deprecated), HyperFlexSearchForm, and AjaxSearch. Which have you tried? What didn’t you like?

Both HyperFlexSearchForm and AjaxSearch do a perfectly good job of searching MODx content, but if you don’t like them there are also topics here in the forums (and on the web in general) for implementing a Google search on your site.
