    Hi all.

I have two MODx sites running currently - both 0.9.5 and almost identical apart from a couple of theme changes and content. One is a test site - developed purely on the server, one is soon to be a production site - developed on my laptop.

    Laptop - Latest WAMP build.
    Sever - IIS6, PHP5, MySQL 4.1

Once I developed a substantial portion of the production site - I moved it to my server, to test how it would work with a transfer across servers, and also to make it available via the web - although slow for others to approve content and request changes.

    Physical Locations
    W:/ModX-Personal/
    W:/ModX-Personal/dev/production/

    URL
    http://server.domain.com/
    http://server.domain.com/dev/production/

I have changed the config.inc.php to reflect the new DB settings after exporting/importing onto the new server.
I changed the file path in Tool > Config > File Manager to reflect the new physical location.
I changed the file path in Tools > Config > Interface & Features to reflect the new physical location with assets/ tacked onto the end.
I changed the url to match as well with assets/ tacked onto the end of the url as well.

Is there something I have missed?

Because when I go to add an image into a document using QuickEdit and image, I can browse the folders like I should be able to - but it will not show any images. It does show the folders as I have numerous folders under that path. I can only add in images by typing in the path of another image and editing it to suit the new image.

Just thought - would it make a difference to the source-code/settings depending on whether the site was installed under apache and is now running on IIS?

Yes, MODx, and PHP in general, is much happier on Apache than IIS (lol). But many people get it working with IIS. As for transferring, I haven’t run IIS since before 2000, so I’ll have to let the IIS experts chime in...

I understand PHP working better under apache than IIS - but I use IIS on my server as I am running Windows Software Update Services - and dont want to run two webhosts side by side.

What I dont understand - is why a site would act differently - when they are almost identical apart from one being installed to apache first.

Rewriting URLs is another reason. The fact that Microsoft invested heavily (or is going to partner with and invest heavily) in Zend (they make PHP) because PHP is so persnickety on that platform should also be telling. Your mileage may vary... tongue

So far every organization that I have worked with over the past 15 years that had any dealings at all with Microsoft ended up getting the worst of the deal. Most of them ceased to exist within a few months. The idea of any relationship between Zend and Microsoft does not fill me with warm fuzzies.

Is the only problem you’re having that you can’t browse images in the Resource Browser? Can you browse for files that way (for example a PDF file in assets/files)? Besides the general issues with getting IIS to work properly, you may not have the necessary image management libraries installed (for making thumbnails, etc.).

the gd library and php works successfully on this server - and its within a virtual directory that handles PHP.

I have my own modx site running here, and in a subfolder /dev/ I have the root folder of the other site.
I use MaxiGallery successfully on both - and that is able to generate thumbnails perfectly - the image view on the site having issues - had already generated thumbnails for most of the images within assets/images/

When attempting to add an image, I can create a folder, but I cannot upload either a PNG - invalid file type or a JPG - gives an Invalid XML Response from memory but then proceeds to appear to upload.

I just put a pdf and a txt file into assets/files and attempt to add some media - which allowed me to select files in the list - and it would not see them either.

In an attempt to understand how rewriting URL’s under apache would affect how the site runs under IIS - I am not using URL rewriting at all, just the default installed options.

Ok - here is an update.

Windows 2003 has been clean formatted.
IIS 6, PHP 5.2 has been installed and MySQL 4.1

This same issue occurs - even with different paths - and despite the IIS installed sites working after the tranfer - the inital - Apache > IIS installed site does not.
I have tried varients on the path depending on which of the two file path variables I am trying.

                  W:\Root\dev\site
                  W:\Root\dev\site\
                  W:/Root/dev/site
                  W:/Root/dev/site/

                  W:\Root\dev\site\assets\
                  W:/Root/dev/site/assets

GD Library is installed and active as it has generated previews under an IIS install of modx.
File Manager continues to display the folders and allow browsing but will not display anything else - either in Image mode - or when embeding media - will not show any other formats.

Has anyone else tried to move an IIS > Apache or Apache > IIS before?

IIS -> Apache makes a lot of sense. The other way around? Not so much. tongue

It may not make sense - but thats the way it happened.

Basically I needed to do a quick work up for my boss on my laptop and installed WAMP.
Ran the basics - showed him what it could do and got the go ahead. Spent a couple of hours then building up the site - finding content etc and he liked what I had done.

But didn’t want to just have the site offline while he searched for a host - he wanted to get some other ppls input on the site - so I transfered it to my server at home.

Now as I explained above I run WSUS at home, and already had my own MODx site running on it, so I just imported the DB, put the new site in a subdirectory and changed the paths - as indicated by the guide here - URL Rewriting under Apache was not used.

As for why I run WSUS - I am a network admin and I use my home server as a demonstration/trial server - so its useful to be run what I run at work at home as a test/learning experience.

Given those circumstances - does transfering from Apache to IIS make sense now and explain why I need to resolve the issue?
