Does anyone know of a decent reservation or booking engine for rooms that can be skinned to match your website?

Or how difficult would it be to port something like this?

    http://blog.clearskys.net/plugins/availability-plugin/

And maybe add front end reservations with a payment gateway onto it, or tie it into ShopX?

Also, if anyone is interested in building such functionality for MODx, could you please PM me to discuss bids, and I would be completely open to releasing this back to the community.

I *think* it shouldn’t be too hard to port it for someone with a bit decent PHP experience, especially not since basically everything is located in just two files, just like MODx likes it. I’m however not able to do so as I lack the know-how of both MODx and PHP, integrating it with ShopX would be a totally different deal as well. Goodluck.

This is just one last bump to see if any developers would possibly be interested in this and if so contacting me via PM for a bid. I think this would be a neat contribution to be released back to the community, and if tied into ShopX, might help drive further development of that.

I’ll do it for one billion dollars, but if you want to get cheap labor, Scotty will probably do it for dollar less.. wink

Kidding aside.. If you wan’t to try something yourself, I think you would achieve this with Kalendar snippet and newsmanager / publisher.. But without knowing more how big reservation system you will be needing, I’m not sure if they will suit for you.. anyways, if you have for example 2 rooms, you could create a container for each room and make Kalendar list it’s "events" eg. reservations. Then if you want front end reservation thing, you could modify newsmanager snippet to create the document’s for those containers.. or you could use eform together with docmanager to create the documents.. And with Kalendar and Ditto you would be able to build the reservation listings and so on.. Paypal payment gateway would be pretty easy to throw in the mix, there is some threads about it in the forums. But if it’s something big that you want, a custom app for it is the right way to go and I hope you are able to hire someone to do it..

Wow, it’s nice to see interest in my plugins spread beyond Wordpress.

They are initially developed for Wordpress as it’s a system I use quite a bit, though they are by no means going to be limited to that platform. The road map includes finalising an API, Firefox/Flock extensions and beyond (insert evil laugh here).

I’ve never used Modx before, but give me a bit of time to look into it and I’m sure I can work on bringing the plugins across (hey if anyone wants to speed up the process and point me at some useful pages then please do).

            Best regards
            Barry

              Barry,

Glad to see you over here! I am sure once you see the power of MODx, you might start using it a bit more smiley

              I would definitely start here:
              http://www.modxcms.com/developers-guide.html

And also take a gander through this:
              http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Main_Page

And these two tutorials from Susan are helpful:
              http://www.sottwell.com/database-module.html
              http://www.sottwell.com/database-module-2.html

I would also recommend installing MODx with all the sample data, as it gives you working examples of how to get MODx to do amazing things.

And as always, the forum is a really great place to come and the responses are usually within hours.

That sounds great Barry, feel free to ask questions here on the forums if you come against any issues.. Start a thread for this project in the development forums for example.. Looking forward to see what you come up with and how you like MODx. smiley

                  Barry

Glad to see you’re interested in MODx. Your script looks very impressive and it’s something that I’ve actually been searching for for quite some time.

If there was a future MODx-compatible version then that would be great smiley

                  Keep up the good work.

I just wanted to let everyone know that Barry has made some very nice updates to his plugin:

                    http://blog.clearskys.net/

He also had this to say:

"I’m planning on linking the MODx release with the next release of the Booking enquiry plugin (both are progressing very well). Then I will have a common functionality base on all platforms, which will make it easier to progress both versions. Don’t worry, haven’t forgotten about you MODx users….."

It looks like the reservation system is a little bit closer to reality, as far as MODx goes.
