Since MODx has a pretty robust API now, and an improved one coming in the future, that’s kinda like asking if anyone has used Mambo inside MODx to manage their content. tongue

Ryan is not a developer, and so we’ll forgive him for the bad analogy since CodeIgnitor is not actually a content management framework in any way that I can tell. rolleyes

I think it’s a very important point that MODx already makes it quite easy to make use of PHP libraries in various forms now.

Now, I’ve never specifically made use of CodeIgnitor myself, but I do make use of various frameworks, from OR/M systems like Propel, to my own upcoming ultra-light OR/M solution built on PDO (http://xpdo.org/), to Zend Framework, to PEAR libraries, with very little problem, by using combinations of plugins and/or snippets as needed.

And even more so in the future; in next-generation releases, the core framework is being completely rewritten from scratch, and will feature some cool new ways to make use of a wider-variety of frameworks and libraries from within MODx and the framework API’s themselves. Above all else, a true content management framework, as MODx claims to be, has to serve as or at least be able to easily integrate with another tool serving as, a central point of integration for your web applications and the information sources they are dependent on, and it is my intention to make MODx easy to extend and customize in every aspect possible to serve this purpose.

Eh? It was a great analogy. MODx does two things, CMS and CMF/app stuff, and Ryan picked the other one to make the example.
No, I don't know what OpenGeek's saying half the time either.

Jason likes to give me a hard time, and I’m OK with that. Can’t blame a redneck, rock-n-roll, pool shark, hippie for trying to be clever, now can you? Emphasis on "try"... tongue

Perhaps it does overlap a little more than I thought from previous glances I have taken at CodeIgnitor; and as Ryan said, I was mostly just using it as an oppotunity to "try" and be clever. I just didn’t like the idea of dismissing any potentially useful integrations so quickly...but like I said, I’ve never used it myself...

lol i understand that you can technically use MODx to develope applications.. however; just to reiterate, is there anyone (besides open) that has used something like codeigniter along side modx to develope a web site/application. and also any suggestions on taking such steps.

the reason is, code igniter specifically has it’s own file structure and uri handling- this obviously conflicts with how modx manages its own application and content.

Just for curiosity’s sake, what about Code Ignitor is it that you’d like to use?

For the sake of precision, It’s Code Igniter not Code Ignitor (Now I am trying to be clever lol)

If you didn’t watch the Code Igniter video, it remind very much of the famous RoR video... Code Igniter somewhat aims at being the PHP counterpart of Ruby On Rails (they took the same example for their video, how to build a blog in 15 minutes or something...).
