    ok - i’m getting further with ModX and enjoying it more every day. i started testing out comments last night (basic & anonymous) and things were ok. today i moved on in the tutorial and created a blog readers group and made comments open to that group only. now, on my home page where there are summaries of various blogs, there is what appears to be extra formatting on the one blog with test comments, which is disrupting my styling.

    this is what i find in the source code:

    <h3><a href="books/book_page_test/usrcmt-14.html">book page test - User comments</a></h3>
    <div>
    <div style="font-size:11px;line-height: 17px;white-space:normal;width:100%;background-color:#eee;color: #111;padding:5px;margin-bottom:10px;" class="">
    <div style="float:right; padding: 0 0 20px 20px;font-size:24px;color:#ccc;font-weight:bold;">

    </div>
    <div style=</div></div>
    <p><a href="books/book_page_test/usrcmt-14.html">Read more...</a></p>
    <div style="text-align:right;">by <strong></strong> on 18-Jul-06 23:34</div>

    1) where can i edit the formatting of the comments? in any case i’d like the comments themselves to look consistent with the site, and certainly the ones that appear in the summary should be the appropriate width.
    2) is it possible to remove user comments from the summary?
    3) i notice this in the code: <div style= . is this just waiting for me to style properly?
    4) also in the source, i see </div></div>. is this some sort of failsafe to make sure divs get closed?

    thanks in advance - y’all have been super-helpful so far. this website is a personal project, but my next idea is for a portal and i am definitely thinking that ModX is the right for the job.

      ok - i’m totally stumped. i have one css file and the formatting is not coming from there, and i can’t figure out where it’s comming from. it’s definitely the ’width=100%’ that’s the problem, and i’d like to fix the colors to suit my site better as well. suggestions?

        Hi arphaus,

        I have exactly the same problem as you, it starts when I use Ditto, here is my call:

        [[Ditto? &startID=`842` &summarize=`20` &multiLevel=1 & &paginate=`1` &paginateAlwaysShowLinks=`1`]]

        the comments starts appearing in the summary page

        but when I use Newslisting everything is normal.

        What can we do ?

        Thanks for your help

          What snippet you guys use for usercommenting? I would suggest to take a look at Replix, it does not store the usercomments in the actual documents like builtin usercomments snippet does. Replix will also replace the usercomments snippet in an upcoming MODx release. Replix also has very good templating abilities.

          For Ditto templating, you can find examples at it’s documentation.

            initially, i am using the built-in user-commenting. what i don’t see via ditto or the snippet is how to style the comments. until i made a comment, i was fine with how the summaries looked. i’m still not certain how to style comments, where the little numeric background is coming from and so forth. and where can i fix this bit of code: <div style=</div></div>

            admittedly, this is new to me, so i may be overlooking something very basic. in the meantime, i will take a peek at Replix.

              ps i’d still like to know where the ’background-color:#eee;color: #111;’ code is coming from. that would probably clear things up for me. replix is producing errors so far and failing xhtml validation.

                The css styles in UserComments snippet comes automatically if you have not setup any css classes to use in the snippet call, look at the top of UserComments snippet for available parameters.

                  i checked the parameters and tried using &postcss to see if it worked (trying something really simple & visible with a class that cut the width in half) and there was no change in the code that was outputted.

                    i finally found the default styling in the snippet. finally! i’ll use css classes for it all instead. whew. next: registering users...

                    thanks for the help.

                      You should be able to use an alternate chunk to format the comments instead of hacking the code.
