We’ll be migrating all the forums to Discuss in the near future, a native MODX forum solution. Part of this migration is a slight restructuring of the top-level categories to better fit the flow of discussions in the community and hopefully to make it easier to find the exact right spot to create discussions and to ask questions.

With that in mind some of the international forums are a bit stagnant and could really be rolled up to a single topic under those particular languages. Others like the Russian boards probably could use more granularity.

So, if you participate in an international community that’s had relatively few posts or low activity in recent months, we’ll likely take the initiative to just roll those up into a single topic under the language heading. Anyone can request this to occur. For what it’s worth, here’s a simplification of how the new English categories could translate to a structure for busier localized forums:

    General
    Announcements & Security Notices—moderator-posting only
    Meetups & Events
General MODX—general project information and discussions—not intended for usage & support topics
Web-worker lounge—web development topics and things related to web development industry, including CSS help, server discussions, etc.
    Blue Sky / Off-topic

    Revolution
Revo Help & Usage—discuss all non-development topics here, including discussions about bugs prior to opening bug tickets, etc.
    Revo Add-ons—support & usage for Revo Add-ons
Revo Development—anything that is related to Revo and needs discussion about something that falls inside <?php ... ?>
xPDO—all topics about the DB / ORM layer for MODX

    Evolution
    Evo Help & Usage
    Evo Add-ons
    Evo Development

I would appreciate your feedback on this soon as we’ve got next Friday scheduled as the freeze date for any forum changes before importing into Discuss on Saturday, Aug 20.

FYI, some of the languages that seem to be candidates for roll-up to a single topic based on topic-count (under 400 topics):

      Finish
      Persian
      Polish
      Spanish

Topics that seem to have stagnated or have other primary international forums, and therefore a roll-up candidate::

      Japanese

Topics already rolled into a single category:

      Bulgarian
      Chinese
      Czech
      Filipino
      Hebrew
      Portuguese
      Scandinavian
      Slovak
      Swedish
      Turkish

We should probably add some new languages for countries with budding MODX communities like Thailand and others.

You might consider splitting Revo Development into two topics, one for add-ons and one for Revo core code. Otherwise, it’s may to be a pretty broad category.

Good point Bob. In fact it is that way in the English forums now, with even more other sub-forums not mentioned above. Probably could stand to merge a few (or more), but for now, they’re kinda the way we anticipate them being upon launch of the Discuss-powered relaunch. I’m just not sure if there’s enough post volume to make more granular categories for all but a few of the non-English forums.

Will this forum provide redirecting boards for those other international forums?
I’ve been continuously promoting MODX on our own forum.
I also notice the Germans, and Japans do similar thing.

I don’t think it will initially, but we can easily sticky a topic and provide a link to there in the interim. That being said, Shaun and I discussed this functionality a couple of weeks ago and I’ve created a tracking issue for it in the Discuss project at our Issue Tracker.

is it wise to start posting right now, or is better to wait for the new international subforums, or doesn’t matter. I would like to see a dutch forum from ModX CMS

                    @Paprikas
The Russian Forum is already one of the most active and there are no structural plans to change anything at this point. We’d certainly be happy to discuss any changes the Russian Community would like to see.

There is already a Dutch sub-forum, and a very active community in Holland. Would you like to see something else? Everything posted here will be migrated to the new forums this weekend.

                      Is it pending for fixing?
