I’d like to move the translation management to the wiki. This would allow us to see version changes, and to also have more folks working on the language files collaboratively. Does anyone know if Media Wiki will handle different character sets. Here’s an example:

Current english 096 language file and the diff view showing the changes since 095 language kit was released.

The names I’d propose would be along the following:
    main (en-us utf8)
    main (en-uk utf8)
    ditto (en-us utf8)

    And so on... thoughts?

That’s the job of each translation team, and the beauty of a wiki: anyone can do it! We just make sure we keep up the English versions and will make sure the final-final versions are included when 096 is officially released.

Well theoretically the forum moderators will keep those "teams" informed since I speak only redneck and English. MotSmart, time to bug your Moderators!

I have not yet contributed much to the wiki, and we already had a french wiki set up elsewhere but I’ll move the content to the modxcms.com wiki, I agree this will make things easier !

Not limited to the language files handling : it’s been a while since I had to handle languages on MediaWiki : I see that there is spanish and german home pages on the wiki already, do we need the wiki admin to create languages or can we do it on our own ?

The country code system is fine by me too btw

                Hello,

I just translated the QuickEdit module in french : here.

Hope I didn’t make any mistake to create the new wiki page, it’s the first time I used this method : I entered the url of my future document, and I edited the empty page. Is it ok?

In my text, I had every "’" symbol precedated by "\".

If that’s ok, I think I can translate very quickly the other english pages. wink

Of course, if some french people are not okay with my traduction (maybe too long for some words "Cacheable" becomes "Possibilité de mettre en cache" tongue ), feel free to edit this first attempt...

Maybe before starting from scratch check what’s on the temporary french wiki and what has already been done... QuickEdit was already up to date (no changes for 0.9.6).

OK David, I’ll check it out before next time! tongue

Would you prefer to keep every french traduction on the french wiki or should we also copy the articles to the english one?

Maybe a link to the french wiki would be enough...

I am in favor of having all things on modxcms.com wiki.
The temporay french wiki was a tool we used in the meantime.

It’s time to switch over to the modxcms.com wiki !
