I see a lot of messages in the French community of MODx, and, for what I can understand, they do not talk only about internationalization and translations... if this is true, the rest of the world is lacking some important information and development of MODx?

Our good friend David Molliere (davidm) moderates the French forum, and he also shares the important discussions here in English forums smiley.

So, as soon as it is concerned with functionality of MODx or other important things related to this project, it will be initiated in English forums for sure.

I hope this helps smiley .... oh! Thanks for raising attention wink

        regards,

          Sorry guys.

This issue is being adressed. The french community has grown rapidly and the forum has been used for support and not only translation purposes. I’ll quote myself :

Quote from: davidm at Dec 23, 2005, 12:10 PM

Quite a bit of activity here, we’ve even been discussing using a full separate install of SMF Aour has set up, to avoid cluttering the forums here. Thanks to him, we have a wiki install too for translations. On top of this, a MODx install is underway too, to "mirror" the official english website, I know Aour wanted to run this by you before we do anything official.

As local communities grow, it might be a good idea to have an official "policy" as to how these local communities are to be handled : on a per-iniative basis or a centralized approach here with a language link ?

Anyway, we do need subforums now, wether we go on there or switch to a full blown french board.

If you create subforums and we go on here on modxcms.com it would be nice adding the Ignore Boards mod for SMF. Not everyone speaks french wink

We have asked Ryan about launching a separate website for french support, but I refer you to his point of view on the matter :

I’d personally prefer to have it all under one roof so that we can have a better idea at a glance of the global "scope, size and impact" of the project.

We had discussed before about this, and it would seem the Ignore Boards mod for SMF would solve unwanted messages/board display if international support is to be hosted here.

Once again sorry for the inconvenience, this should be fixed soon smiley

Daiv, I believe this is not a really major issue that cause madmage to oepn up this topic. I believe he is just refering to the important of making sure that we have all the suggesiton and improvement for MODx, and due to the amount of discussion that had been going on in this forum, especially for the french community, madmage trying to make us aware of the needs in making sure that we got all the necessary information that have impact on MODx.

Is that right madmage? Hope I’m not misunderstanding anything here, and helps to keep everything straight up.

Btw, great job for moderating french forum, at least we can see the significant growth from the french forum that I believe being moderated correctly by you. I’m looking forward for more international support in this forum, which will lead MODx into a better CMS community.

Yes, my tought was as wendy just described... I understand only a little bit of french and sometimes try to understand the general meaning of the french topics...

So I do not want neither to ignore it with SMF mod, nor to say that it is wrong... I was only afraid that the MODx community was split in two, thus making weak the whole group... for this reason I agree with ryan for not to split the community in two different places...

I am sure that the moderator is doing his best in his job, and I am glad to know that the important discussions are ported in the international forums...

thanks to all for doing what you are doing! smiley

                Hi

It is a big surprise, all around the world, a lot of people do not read and write english shocked
                It’s crazy!

So we have two solutions :

Declare that Modx is a cms only for english speaking people
                or
Create a sub forum for each other language, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish ... where people can discuss in their language.

The good question is "how organize the international community?" (moderators, coordinators ...)

Suggestion : move international subforum out of "Development"

                Aour

PS : I hope you understand french humour

I’m not american or english speaking user either, but I do live and work in US. So I can’t blame some people that don’t really know how to speak english, or they woul prefer to speak their own language.

Anyway, back to the point, I don’t really get the joke though embarrassed Hehehe...

Anyway, looking forward for a better way to handle other languages discussion, there might be another sub forum needed for other languages. It will be part of our strong point to market MODx as well.

                    In my Opinion problem is:
To understand technichal English language (computers, web) is more different from understand "school" english grin...

some information are simpler to explain in own language.

i spent 24 hours to translate Audit Trail in italian grin grin grin

                      Hi

My joke is not good. Next time I try to do better wink

French speaking community make a good job to promote Modx. For example on framasoft, a open source web site, we publish an article and now we have 12 628 visits. 3 336 visits on www.webmaster-hub.com.
If we want to capitalize these visitors, we need a "Cocoon" for these visitors who would not speak English.

Our success will depend on our capacity to mobilize all the resources in all the languages.
So we need places to everyone and some coordinators to transmit ideas, bugs, translations ...

In a few weeks, the forum will be update and I hope that all communities will grow. Thank’s Ryan wink
